Terrorism has become a growing field of study over the years at the international level. The September 11th terrorist attacks on The United States set the landmark and redesigned counter-terrorism efforts not only in The United States but internationally. A terror group using civilian airplanes as weapons have clearly demonstrated the drastic changes in the tactics and methods used by terrorist. The evolution of terrorist tactics has been a stimulating field of study that various terrorism researchers have been enthusiastic to reach a conclusion. Terrorism is a method used by an array of different organizations and individuals to achieve a political goal. An element that terrorist groups have in common that their ideology has them convinced that they will conquer their enemies and achieves their political goals. Terrorist attacks are usually carried out by a certain ideology ranging from communism, fascism, and anarchism. However, the most dangerous ideology is when terrorist are motivated by the use of religion. Terrorist are motivated by religion a very dangerous and extremely influential factor to overcome solely by counter-terrorism tactics. Modern history has been witness to the rise in terrorist activity that is diverse in political objectives and operating in an array of different geographical locations. According to Rapport, terrorism as evolved in in four different waves each wave, motivated by different causes and the target selection differed from wave to wave leading to what is modern terrorism of the twenty-first century. Terrorist organization are opposed to targeting state and political leaders for assassination as compared to the first three waves of terrorism.
