Everything
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For other uses, see Everything (disambiguation).
Everything (or every thing), is all that exists; the opposite of nothing, or its complement. The totality of things relevant to some subject matter. Without expressed or implied limits, it may refer to anything. The Universe is often defined as everything that exists. It may refer to an anthropocentric worldview,[1] or the sum of human experience, history, and the human condition in general.[2]

[edit]Theory of everything
Main article: Theory of everything
In theoretical physics, a theory of everything (TOE) is a theory that would explain and unify all known fundamental interactions of nature in a single model. Originally, the term was used playfully in regard to overgeneralized theories. However, it became a popular way of referring to the “holy grail” of physics. A theory of everything in philosophy would ask: "Why is reality understandable?" "Why are the laws of nature as they are?" "Why is there anything at all?" The idea of everything is simply an answer to lost questions, a reason for reasoning, and the idea that all is simply all, as everything is everything.

A theory is a set of systematically interrelated concepts, definitions, and propositions that are advanced to explain and predict facts. In this sense, we have many theories and use them continually to explain or predict what goes on around us. To the degree that our theories are sound and fit the situation, we are successful in our explanations and predictions.…

Another philosopher of science, Nancy Cartwright, also argues against the unity of science by stating that the laws of physics do not define the laws of nature. She states “Nature does not ‘add’ forces. For the ‘component’ forces are not there, in any but a metaphorical sense, to be added; and the laws which say they are there must be also given a metaphysical reading” (Cartwright, 875). Cartwright distinguishes between two ways of thinking about laws. The first way is that “fundamental” laws are those hypothesized by the realists, and they are meant to describe the actual structure of the universe. The second way is that “phenomenological” laws, these laws are useful for making empirical predictions.…

This concept of nothingness can also be connected to a play by David Ives titled Moby-Dude, Or: The Three-Minute Whale. Just as the characters in Seinfeld fill up their time doing nothing with conversation with one another, the narrator in Moby-Dude, Or: The Three-Minute Whale has one sided conversation with himself as he dictates his synopsis to Mrs. Podgorski, who can be considered the protagonist. Throughout the entire play, the…

Valerie Christensen Division of Labor Emile Durkheim was a French Sociologist who believed that the moral and ethical structures were being threatened by technology and mechanical improvements. He felt that the division of labor created alienation amongst the workers and felt that the greed created by mass production would bring problems for society. Below I have listed a few of his quotes: "Man is only a moral being because he lives in society, since morality consists in solidarity with the group, and varies according to that solidarity. Cause all social life to vanish, and moral life would vanish at the same time, having no object to cling to. " The Division of Labour in Society (1893), trans W.D. Halls (1984), 331.…

Up to now, I still remember my fantastic holiday to Nha Trang city with my friends when I was in Vietnam. It was on the warmth of a summer day in August, 2009. After I graduated high school with a high graded, my parents gave me four days summer vacation with my friends. Hence, I searched some wonderful places on the internet and discussed with my friends about those places. Afterward, we decided to go to Nha Trang city that had a lot of beautiful beaches because a beach trip in the summer was always a good idea for us who lived far away from the sea. In the beginning, we left home at 5a.m because it took eight hours to go there. Along the street, we stopped three times for breakfast and lunch, so we arrived to Nha Trang at 3p.m. After we checked in two rooms at Angle hotel, we went to the nearest beach and looked for a store where we might hire a small boat to go squid fishing. When night fell down completely, we finally hired a boat and started going squid fishing. At that time, the surface of ocean was calm except there were some waves running up. Moreover, the cool wind covered my body when we were far from the seashore. While we were fishing, we suddenly heard someone yelled, "Help, help me!”. Thus, we looked around to determine where the sound came out. Over there, it took about a half mile to our boat; I saw something rising out of the surface. A woman was about to sink into the water. Immediately, my friend, Dat, jumped out of the boat and swam to the woman. When she was on the boat with us, she seemed exhausted and couldn’t speak any words. Therefore, we brought her to the hospital and tried to contact with her husband. After her husband came to the hospital and said thanks for our helping, we left the hospital and backed to our rooms. Although we canceled our squid fishing, we were very happy because of saving a person. The next day, we decided to visit Vinpearl Land in two days. It was located on Hon Tre Island, and it was the…
