Evelyn Carnahan
Next, the audience meets Evelyn Carnahan, played by Rachel Weiz and is a librarian at the Museum of Antiquities. She is taking care of books when she notices one is out of place in the stack, which should be on the next shelf over. While she is reaching over, she gets stuck on her ladder in an upright position and ends up knocking over a self that creates a domino effect knocking them all over. Dr. Bey enters in complete shock to see his library a mess, he stated “Compared to you the other plagues were a joy!” and he wonders why he puts up with her because she is the worst. Evelyn explains it’s because she knows how to translate hieroglyphic and many other examples of her knowledge. Dr. Bey explains he puts up with her because her parents were the museum’s best patrons and tells her to clean up the mess.

Even though she gave multiple good reasons why she should work there, she is still treated like she knows nothing. After Dr. Bey leaves there are noises heard off screen. Evelyn investigates what it could be and enters part of the museum where the mummies are on display. All of a sudden a mummy jumps out of a coffin by Evelyn’s brother Jonathan, played by John Hannah. She explains to him that it is not a good time because she was rejected by the scholars again because she does not have any on field experience and just made a huge mess. Jonathan insisted on having his sister look at what he found because he believes he found something. He shows her a small puzzle box that opens when you push a button, allowing multiple wings to come out and it has a map inside it. They take the map to Dr. Bey and Evelyn explains it is a map to Hamunaptra, the city of the dead, that has been lost for centuries. Dr. Bey does not believe them and tells them they are foolish to go after this city, and burns part of the
