Eulogy: Debut Albums and Greatest Men
Eulogy
Frank the greatest men who ever lived. As we gather at this sad moment to celebrate the lost of our beloved brother, friend and for some a hero. To me he was both a brother and a hero I look up to. Someone who I believe taught me to be a man I am today. Without him I’m not sure what path of life I would’ve taken. The words still run through my mind even now.
“Bro be who you want to be, and just do what makes you happy. Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks” Frank used to always say that to me.
I believe he said those words to himself all the time too. And that’s what made choose the Army. Mum wasn’t so sure about him going to the army. But I have to say Frank chose what made him happy and we were proud of him. Have to say for the last 3 days it been tough for our family. Not a second goes by without thinking of him. His warm smile he always had even when I annoyed him. The wonderful sense of humor, we won`t have those times when we’re traveling and you just make us all laugh. The wrestling and fighting we used to do on the back lawn I surely miss all those moments.
The letter I received last week, saying how you were going to be coming home for you birthday in a 2 weeks. It put a smile on all our faces. We were looking forward to seeing you home and celebrating you 22nd birthday. But I guess God had another plan for you.
Our family was a family of love. I hope that I was a brother who always showed you love. Right now I look back. And I start to wish if I had spent more time with you. Just wish that last camp we went lasted forever. The first night you kept me up all night, telling me you amazing stories in

Frank my beloved. I wish I had said goodbye. But I guess God saw that you have a good fight and succeeded. And it was time to rest.

A brother

Throughout reading the essay by James Agee and Walker Evans entitled Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, my eye was drawn away from the essay and I began thinking about a couple of different ideas when reading one particular excerpt. In the paragraph it was stated: "Above all else: in God's name don't think of it as Art. Every fury on earth has been absorbed in time, as art, or as religion, or as authority in one form or another. The deadliest blow the enemy of the human soul can strike is to do fury honor. Swift, Blake, Beethoven, Christ, Joyce, Kafka, name me a one who has not been thus castrated. Official acceptance is the one unmistakable symptom that salvation is beaten again. And is the one surest sign of fatal misunderstanding, and is the kiss of Judas." The reason that this particularly caught me eye and took my attention away from the page is because I found two distinct different meanings and questions within this quote. The first meaning and question that I found asking my self from reading this excerpt was; do I feel that official acceptance with Christ (or another religious God) is a misunderstood concept and is not the correct direction for one to go about conducting their everyday life? I also found another meaning within this text, which struck me as odd because I have never read anything that has two distinct understandings. The meaning that arose to me is when you think of something as "art," there is an official acceptance within that meaning of "art." By this I mean that someone somewhere must have said that when you as a person produces something that can be portrayed as "art," you have an official acceptance within that object you created and by this opinion I think "art" is a misunderstood concept in society today.…

Writing this eulogy allowed me to tap into memories way in the past. Whenever we would come down to visit from Pennsylvania grandma would grasp my wrist and pester me about not speaking creole. I would shrug as not quite sure what to say. Eventually she would let go and this became routine whenever I saw her when I was younger. Also, I was around seven-years-old when grandma came to visit us. On the ride home we began to slap one another on the arm. It was strange but in a good way.…

Whenever young Frank had a guilty conscience about his human nature, his first instinct was to run into the protective arms of the Church. Most of the priests he has known since his arrival to Ireland are kind men, who set his mind at ease that God forgives him. He was typically reassured with religious words such as: "God forgives all who repent. He sent his only beloved Son to die for us (342)." Such words are very comforting to a young boy who is guilty about such trivial sins as pleasuring himself and petty theft. Raised in poverty, one of his favorite subjects of prayer was the thought of moving to America, where he could make his fortune. He continues to take great comfort in the church well into his teenage years.…

Seven years have gone by in time since I have been gone. That means seven Christmas, seven Easters, seven birthdays, and eighty-four months missed in that home. There could have been many memories made in that home, but military life has changed those memories. There were many first for me in that home, but continuum of those first are gone. You walk up to it you see this nice big yard in the front great to have your kids and pets to play in, to share and have memories on. Going through the front door and you look inside may not seem like much to you but to me there is more than a life time of memories in this house. Living room on the left, dining room and kitchen on the right, and straight in front of you is a hallway to 3 rooms and 3 baths. Yes my dear little brother you may remember this place as another place we lived in. But this place is where you grew and had your foundation of your life. This home is where we had our first steps, our first word, our first drawings, our first holidays, our first time meeting and see all of our family, and where all those memories will stay. When I walk through this hall and rooms all I see is us having our past memories. I remember the first time you walked. We were playing in the play room, you wanted to get your Legos so you crawled your way to the 3 stairs we had in that room. You stood up and climbed those stairs with such ease, and you then ran across the room to get you your Legos. I have never seen you that happy like that day. Those first we had shown how much we have accomplished in such a short time. We humans can accomplish the hardest things in our lives with ease and quickly. Those first we had in our first home are the greatest and precious memories and first that we will never forget and will always cherish. When you have your own children I pray that you will teach them the values of their firsts especially the ones as a baby and toddler. I will never forget…
