Etiquette and Good Manners
Good manners are a courtesy to others
In essence, good manners mean you don't make others uncomfortable around you. It's not just eating quietly and neatly, it's paying attention to the person who is talking to you, not gossiping, laughing even if the joke isn't funny (as long as it is not crude). Good manners are a form of caring. They are also a bridge between cultures and lifestyles. Knowing the protocol of the other culture is a form of good manners. Allowing others to have the spotlight is a form of good manners. If, by good manners, you are simply referring to table manners, put your napkin in your lap, use your silverware from the outside in, tear your bread in bite size pieces before you butter it, one piece at a time, and don't gulp. Chew with your mouth shut and wait until it is empty to talk. Eat small pieces at once so you are not looking like a cow chewing cud. It's just a matter of making sure others are not uncomfortable around you. That's really the whole thing.

Bad manners hold you back in life
There are a lot of people who think that manners and etiquette are about forcing people to behave in unnatural ways, or that it's a way of making some people feeling stupid (when they commit a faux pas).

But in truth, manners create a framework that allows us to communicate with fewer misunderstandings, and with clear expectations for what will happen. Good manners are simply knowing how to behave in a way that doesn't make the people around you uncomfortable. It's NOT about knowing how to use weird appetizer forks, or about telling other people how to behave. It's just about being at ease in a social situation, and not unwittingly embarrassing yourself.

It's a pain to have to teach children good manners. Remembering those "please" and "thank yous," chewing with your mouth closed, speaking in polite volumes, not interrupting, etc., are not easy skills to acquire. But if you equip your children with these, they will be able to

Oftentimes in society, we take many things for granted. Many things we may not even notice. We take for granted the safety of the normality of our lives. We also take advantage of the care and precision that goes into keeping that way. In our safe society the behaviors we display are expected to be courteous and polite. Society does not expect the people in it to be rude or without manners. Our society is like this because we are always being watched, being regulated. Many times people have wondered what would happen if we were not always watched. We wonder if man would be evil or good. That is exactly…

According to the article "Is There Anything Wrong With This Picture" by Lauren Tashis and Kristian Lewis is seems to be that because of phones and other technology, people are more rude than they were in the past. After reading over this article and looking at all the evidence I determined that having good manners benefits everyone. First of all, people with good manner tend to be more successful. For instance, in this article the author states that "Studies show that teens with good manners are more likely to be successful: they get better grades, and are more impressive in job interviews. This shows that having good manners can help you get good grades and even secure you a job. Another great piece of evidence to support my claim is that…

You know that one person that bumps into you but doesn’t have the common courtesy to say excuse me or I’m sorry they just keep walking like it never happened, and wonder why someone is stepping to them rudely. Or that moment you are on the freeway and lanes are merging and it seems like the driver in the next lane seems to have speed up as you are trying to fit into the merge resulting in you having to slow down even more, All though it is not getting that person any faster to their destination. Etiquette is not just about what fork to use other words it’s all about self-awareness and treating others with respect. It’s sad and unfortunate that a lot civility has gone with the wind. Rudeness is on the rise, but it has some things to do with the economy and parenting.…
