Lewinsky Scandal Speech Outline
SPS: I’m here speaking with you today to evaluate and showcase how scandals can affect a public figures’ image and reputation.
CI: Affairs, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice are just a few things we’re going to touch base on today.
Introduction:
I. When you think of the president of the United States many things come to mind however is all boils down to suits, ties, and 2.5 kids. The picture perfect all-American family that’s what we all want right? II. Bill Clinton became one of the most famous presidents, but not for reasons of loyalty or due diligence but for a sex scandal that rocked the white house. III. Everyone faces temptation is their day to day lives yet we seem to have this ingrained image that figures in power should never act on those temptations or at least not get caught doing so. IV. However Bill Clinton did get caught feeding into his temptation, but he did everything he could beforehand to keep his involvement on the matter hidden from the public for reasons of guilt and shame.
Body:
I. Having an affair may be one of the few things in a marriage that is still frowned upon by the general public. A. Clinton was accused of having several different sexual relations with women other than his wife. 1. Linda Tripp a co-worker of Monica Lewinsky both of which worked for the white house department of defense, recorded a phone conversation her and Lewinsky had about Lewinsky’s involvement with the president. (As stated by CNN in 1998 from coverage on the scandal) 2. This recording was key evidence and proof that Clinton did in fact have an affair with Ms. Lewinsky B. Clinton soon felt the heat and damage that this recording could do to his presidency. 1. On behalf of her leverage Monica Lewinsky was offered an official paid job at the white house rather than an internship she originally started with. 2. Scurrying to cover
