Ethics In Correctional Personnel
Ethics may mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Unfortunately, we live in a day and age where we see what ethics is not. Some people may think of ethics as a code of conduct where a member of a job profession and or organization is bound by a set of standards. While others may have no feelings or display emotions when they do something wrong. Because to them, it's not wrong, it may not have been the best decision or best course of action to take. In my line of work as a Correctional Personnel, a large part of a correctional officer's duties are daily cell searches which is to reduce or prevent the introduction of contraband into a secure maximum prison facility.
For a job well done, Officers are given public praise, letter of accommodation just to name a few when they discovered home-made weapons, CDS, or an escape route. The accommodation letters looks good on their resume when job promotions come up. For example, it becomes unethical to either placed contraband in an inmates' cell or lie about it because it's beneficial to that officer(s) and yet it results in an inmate being placed in consolatory confinement.
My definitions of ethics are based solely on biblical principles, not religion. Ethics relates to choices

You really have to be careful using egoism when you hold a position of power. You can’t do what is going to benefit their own interest but what is the best for law enforcement. There are times though where you have to do what is best for you, as an officer. I was always told that it is between you going home or the bad guy going home, you should pick the first option. There are times where you would want to do something that would make you feel good but you can’t legally so there is a fine line that you have to follow in order to keep your job as a police

    Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct has been found.
