The Case of Candy Candy is a 14 year old girl and she comes from a broken home with recently divorce parents. Her acting out in class may be as result of her parents being divorce. She has a boyfriend who is 15 years old and they have unprotected sex which resulted in her pregnancy. The boyfriend has already established he isn’t ready to be a father. This leaves Candy with the decision to have an abortion but she isn’t really sure she can go through with it. As her counselor, I would like to first sit down and discuss why she has made the decision to have an abortion. I would like to know ask what she knows about the procedure and find out what her feeling really are about the procedure. I would help her with researching and understanding the pros and cons of an abortion. Her best interest and safety is my main focus. I would also help her with understanding other options she may have that are less invasive. Assuring her she isn’t the only girl that has had to deal with such a situation, I would provide her with alternative methods to handling her situation such as adoption. We would also explore her support system at home. I would attempt to arrange a session with her and her parents to help with coping and communication issues, since Candy is a minor. I would advise her parent consent would be needed for the abortion procedure. She is 14, and she should not have to go through making a decision such as this alone. I would explain my views on abortion but I would not try and influence her decision. Even though I personally would not consider the procedure as an option due to my religious beliefs, I judge no one that choses it as an option. I believe in abortions as an option for those who are victims of rape or medical abortions to save the mothers’ life. I believe by exploring her options may help with limiting some anxiety she may be having

Age of consent would be the first factor. What is the age of consent, in Candy’s state of residence? I live in the state of California, adolescence are not required to have parents consent in regards to abortion. (English, 2003). Understanding what the school ethics are a consideration to students seeking an abortion is another consideration. With the state allowing consent I would assume this would be the school policy, however I would ascertain this protocol. The fact that Candy and her boyfriend are having sex, this could be against the law. In the state of California it is unlawful for minors under 18 to have sex, however there is the “Romeo and Juleit Clause”, which allows for sex if the two are within 2 years of age. (Smith, 2011). Candy and her boyfriend are not breaking the…

Induced abortion is just one of the multitudes of bioethical dilemmas that a physician is charged with confronting. The act of inducing abortion is a controversial subject that involves many potentially competing factors such as an individual’s moral and religious compass, what rights an unborn fetus has and the rights that a woman has over her own body. In the case of a 16 year-old girl who is pregnant as a result of incest and seeking an abortion, my role as the practitioner would be to put the health of the patient first - above all personal bias.…

There are two genres that discuss both the pros and the cons of this personal choice. The first is a website called Abortion. procon.org. It is nonpartisan, nonprofit, and presents facts, studies, and pro and con statements related to abortion. This is a very informational and relatable site that any women should consider in their decision making process. The second source is an e-book by Dr. John Jefferson Davis. This source is called Abortion and the Christian: What Every Believer Should Know. It generally discusses both sides of the…

Weighing the consequences of abortion and analyzing whether it is acceptable is a right that some women have but most women abuse. Some young women that become pregnant in high school or college abort their babies because they want their freedom before they are tied down by children. Terminating the life of an unborn child is something that should be taken more seriously. Some women treat having a child as a task or burden; although caring for a child is not easy, the burden of taking the life of a baby is far more heart wrenching. Abortion is a life changing procedure that takes the life of an unwanted baby. From a statistical point of view, abortions caused by health problems, rape, and incest with involuntary pregnancy make up only 7 percent of all performed abortions. Social and personal problems are the remaining causes of women undergoing an abortion.…
