Ethical Dilemma In Social Work
How did you become interested in this particular type of work? I am interested in this type of work because I want to help people. Some people have many thing going on with their lives, but they have nobody to talk to. I wish I could be at somebody that people can talk to if they have any problem.
Does your particular agency/ field (social work-NASW, psychology-APA, etc) have a Code of Ethics they abide by? Yes, every time when I have an issue, I always go back to the APA, the ACA, or even the code of my work place.
How would you define “Ethical Dilemma?” To me, ethical dilemma is any situation that you need to resolve. Sometimes, it can interfere with your moral thinking and with the law or the code at your work place. People may have their own definition of “Ethical Dilemma”, but this what I think the definition of the words. I thought to myself, “What is this young man doing?” At that time, I did not know what his intention was, so I asked him what those roses are for. I did not understand the meaning behind them. Of course, I had to ask him for the intention. As a counselor, I had the right to know the motivation behind this gift. I asked him the purpose of this gift, and he told me that he just wanted to show gratitude toward somebody who he respects. There was no other meaning. It was just a gift to someone who had helped him with obstacles throughout the school year. Finally, I accepted the gift. At the same time when I was asking him questions, I also evaluated the gift and its intention in my head. First of all, I knew that the gift does not worth a whole lot of money, and the gift is not belong to the student personally. After knowing the intention of the gift, so I believed that it was okay to accept
