Resolving Ethical Dilemmas and Making Ethical Decisions
An Ethical Dilemma is a complex situation that often involves an apparent mental conflict between moral imperatives. To obey one would result in transgressing another (Wikipedia). One can create an assumption based on this definition that while one task is important to one self of morals the other self is just as important and there is a necessity to make a decision between those morals of that individual. The most common example is when one must choose to feed his/her family by means of stealing, while stealing is against ones morals; letting his/her family starve or become malnourished is also just as bad. Now to most people “ethics and morals” are used interchangeably, ethics do not change (universal) and morals can change from areas and cultures (Wikipedia). Ethical Decisions for that matter are something that each individual must really think about and be conscious of. One must consider some people have higher ethical values than others, so that would make it so there moral development might not be at the same level as others. There is no argument for “right versus wrong”, with ethical decisions, but rather what is directed by the self and what is important to them in comparison to the universal principle. A high value is placed on: Justice, Dignity, and Equality (Wikipedia).
Coming to the juncture of how would one Resolve Ethical Dilemmas, while making Ethical Decisions? This would be a struggle for all, but the strategies that can be employed in helping the individual come to making a resolution between self and also being steadfast in making decision that will be generally accepted. Organizations have to be familiar with Resolving Ethical Dilemmas and Making Ethical Decisions quite often because of the frequency of each situation within the workplace.
