Sachin was born on 24th April 1973 to Ramesh Tendulkar who was a well known Marathi novelist and Rajni Tendulkar who worked in the insurance industry. Sachin’s father named him after his favorite music director Sachin Dev Burman. Sachin has three siblings- two half-brothers Nitin and Ajit and a half-sister Savita. Sachin spent his formative years at Sahitya Sahwas Cooperative housing society which was located in east Bandra. Sachin was known at school as a bully and often picked fights with other children. To channel this energy Ajit introduced him to cricket in 1984. He took him to his coach Ramakant Achrekar who was very well known at that time. At the first meeting Sachin did not play well Ajit told Achrekar that he was feeling self conscious due to the coach noticing him, and wasn’t displaying his natural game. Ajit told Achrekar to give him another chance but this time to watch him from behind a tree. Sachin was unaware that he was being observed and played an amazing game and thus he was accepted at Achrekar’s academy. Achrekar advised Sachin to change his school to Sharadashram Vidyamandir High School. A school which was well known for producing some of the country’s best cricketers.…

A tall, lissome and athletic 17-year-old young man from Chelsea Road in Bay Land, Barbados was once picked as a fast bowler to represent the West Indies Test team. By today's standards, he would have been thought too young to have a glass of red wine much less be handed a red ball to pelt at batsmen in international cricket. Unsurprisingly, in his first match at Sabina Park, like most fast bowlers, he was placed in the lower order to bat, specifically at number nine in the lineup. At the end of a career spanning 18 years for West Indies, this young man played 93 matches in all. Interestingly, that first match turned out to be the first and last…
