The Essence of a Learning Team

Teams are built for various reasons and work together to achieve one common goal. In order for these teams to be successful a plan must be implemented and each member must communicate effectively striving toward achieving that goal. By following a few steps, these groups are more likely to become a stronger and more cohesive team.
Team Building The team building process involves activities and processes we can undertake to strengthen our teams. When we work together in teams someone is usually charged with leading the effort. Knowing how to be a good follower is as important to ensuring the success of a team as knowing how to lead the team.
Followership in Groups Groups are made of individuals who have different roles within that group. Within the group there will be a leader and followers. When groups are formed in an organization, they have a task that needs to be completed and in order to complete the specific task a group dynamic is better than an individual’s attempt to complete the task. Although a leader’s role is to lead the group in the right direction to complete this task, the leader almost must listen to the followers of the group. The followers of the group can make suggestions on how to complete the assigned task. In order for the group dynamic to be successful there must be leader(s) and followers. If every individual within a group is a leader it can be very difficult to complete any task the group is assigned.
Marrying Task and Process
Marrying task and process means when in an e-learning or online environment that team members should use a variety of modes to communicate among team members. These methods can be but are not limited to: instant messaging, e-mails, chat room, cell phones, video conferencing, etc. These modes can enhance the learning experience of the group and allows the team members to gain

    At the University of Phoenix the team members of the online classes are selected by the instructor. The groups are placed together and have to learn how to develop an internet relationship to complete a team assignment without letting controversy be an obstacle. When an obstacle becomes a controversy the teams have to figure a way to resolve any issues before completion of the assignment. The best way for a team to learn each team member is through the team charter. The team charter is a tool offered by the University of Phoenix, which is used for the purpose of direction for the team members. The team charter identifies the strengths of the members, list the possible differences that may develop, and summarizes how those differences are to be settled. Establishing a team charter is a good procedure to meet at the beginning of a class to set the objectives, goals, and commitment of the team members. The team charter will list all team members’ strengths and sometimes his or her weakness and from information listed on the charter where the leader of the team maybe identified. The leader maybe identified by his or her experiences and what they have to offer to the team. If a learning team is going to have success they have to be able to work together effectively. The learning team should make it an effort to know each team member from the information listed in the team charter.     In my opinion, the most important factor that aids a team to work effectively is to have an established goal that each member works toward. When each individual is aware of the direction of team, they can consistently contribute their ideas and insights to achieve that goal. Therefore, my primary objective in this course is to actively seek the best ways to achieve the goal at hand. Once a certain goal has been established, I need to remind myself and my team members of that same goal in an on-going basis; so that the team won’t diverge from the direction it must be headed.
