Essay: Why We Need Better Gun Control Laws
Did you know Close to 33,000 Americans were victims of gun-related deaths in 2011 and an average of 268 citizens are shot every day. This is why we need better gun control laws to keep people safe. the claim in this paper is that we need better gun control laws to keep the people of the United States safe.
Here is my first reason why gun control can help reduce gun deaths and help put an end to mass shootings. look at this procon.org said that from 1999 to 2013 gun deaths were the 12th leading cause of death over liver disease, Parkinson’s, drowning, fire, and machine deaths. Also, The New York times said that more than 17% of mass shooting the guns were obtained legally with federal background checks and at least eight of the gunman were had criminal records or mental health problems. studies on procon.org show that five women die from guns every day and when a gun is involved with a domestic violates argument the chance of a woman dying is 500%. That guns are then main weapon used in homicides. But with gun control it will help stop people from buying high capacity magazines. Mother Jones investigations found out that 50% of the 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012 the gunman used a high capacity magazine. Criminals and gang members use high capacity magazines to compensate for their lack of accuracy to cause maximum casualty. What we need to do is only allow high capacity magazines to military and law enforcement because in total sense when are you going to need a high capacity magazine in real life. So people don’t have the ability to cause mass murder because they won’t be able to carry 20 or 90 round magazine in a hand gun or a 100 to 200 round assault rifle to help lower the rates of domestic violence and homicide
