Essay On Working As A Caseworker
I am currently employed as a Caseworker in the unaccompanied youth at Leake and Watts Services. As well, I am doing my internship in the clinical department for the same agency. The population that I am currently working are children that cross the border from different parts of the world especially, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. However, there has been an increment of children from other parts of the world, like Pakistan, Mexico, Ecuador, Romania and the Dominican Republic. The main reasons that have been provided by these children varies from, “I am running away from the gangs”, “I am running from the drugs”, “I am running away from the poverty”, “I am running away from the violence like war”. As well I have to summarize a brief bio of the children of the day to day back in the home country. Also, as a Caseworker I have to ensure the children are going to a safe place by running background checks, fingerprints and especial cases Home Studies. It is difficult to determine if the future home is safe or unsafe. Mainly, the sponsors (parents, family members or friends) cooperate and follow the rules that we tell them to follow. Lastly, as a Caseworker I ensured that all the legal documentation, family relationship is genuine and providing support in the case of a breakdown. On the other hand, as a clinician, I must ensure the minor state of mind in normal. I must identify any issues in the social, psychological or physical level. As a clinician, I must identify the strengths, weakness, fears, assumptions about their new reality. I need to assess children and family resources in the community, limitations and their environment. Further, Clinicians must provide enough resources in order for the child to transition smoothly in the reunification
