The reproductive system is a collection of internal and external organs (male and female) that work together for the purpose of recreating. Many scientists argue that the reproductive system is the most important system in the body. Without the reproductive system we would not be able to reproduce. 1 For the male reproductive system there are two major parts: testes, where the sperm is produced and the penis. In males the penis and urethra belong to both the urinary system and reproductive system. The testes are carried in an external pouch that is more commonly known as the scrotum. They actually remain at a slightly cooler temperature than normal body temperature so that they are able to facilitate sperm production. 1 In women the external organs in the reproductive system are the clitoris, labia minora and Bartholin's glands. The internal organs are the vagina and the uterus. The uterus acts as the replacement for semen. Also, the ovaries produce the female’s ova (eggs). It causes your pelvic area to be in pain and cramping, lower back pain and abdominal pain. There can also be pain with intercourse, during and after. Pain with bowel movements or urination is also common. Also excessive bleeding or heavy periods (menorrhagia) and bleeding between periods (menometrorrhagia) can also occur. Infertility can also be a symptom. Lastly, fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating and nausea are all symptoms that are associated with endometriosis. Depending on who you are your symptoms can range from very mild to very severe. Sometimes endometriosis can be mistaken for pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or ovarian cysts and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
