Which aspects of the Texas legislature can be used to demonstrate the limited government of Texas?
Aspects of the Texas legislature that demonstrate a limited government first and fore most is formal rules such how a bill becomes a law. Legislature can’t pass anything they believe is politically accepted, it has to go through a series of steps between the house and senate. Some other limitations include the length of a session. The Texas legislature meets in biennial sessions for 140 days in off-numbered years, beginning in January. In addition is the election of officers. Members of legislative bodies are most often elected from single member districts. Under this system, each legislative district has one member in the legislative body. This provides a geographical representation in all areas. Lastly but certainly not all limitations are qualifications for legislators and member demographics. There are formal qualifications such as age, citizenship, state of residency, district residency, and qualified voter status. In addition, there is informal qualifications which include income, education, occupation, ethnicity, and gender.

In most states, this position has very limited power however in Texas the individual can appoint the chairs of all senate committees, select all members of all senate committees, appoint members of the conference committees, serve as presiding officer and interpret rules, and refer all bills to committees. In addition, Lieutenant Governor has the same powers possessed by the speaker. The catch is the powers are assigned by the formal rules of the senate, which are adopted at the beginning of each session. So, in reality the what the senate gives it can take away.
