Essay On Standing Up Through Violence
Throughout the world there is lots of conflict everywhere, and to this everyone responds to conflict in a different manner. Standing up, compromising with others, and using violence has been proven to be one of the best ways to get to the specific goal and to find a common ground for achieving peace, unlike sitting down and staying quiet . While staying quiet and doing nothing may seem like the best thing to do at times, standing up, compromising with others, and using violence can help achieve your goal, because using violence, compromising with others, or standing up for beliefs can get the same outcome or even better results.
There are so many different influences throughout the world and in history who have changed society for the better by standing up for rights. Gandhi, for example, “He began his activism as an Indian immigrant in South Africa in the early 1900s, and in the years following World War I became the leading figure in India’s struggle to gain independence from Great Britain” (History). For example, “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends” (Rowling). J.K. Rowling is saying how if you are being hurt by someone it takes great courage to do something about it, but if your friends are hurting someone else or yourself it takes even more courage to do something about it and to end things. Although standing up is a great method for peace and showing people your beliefs, staying quiet has its benefits as well, for example, “say if your coworker is getting yelled at by your boss for a wrongdoing and you step in you are putting your job on the line for something that is none of your business” (Silence). Staying quiet in a situation like this is not a place for you to step in, especially when it has nothing to do with you
