Does regulated hunting help preserve wildlife? The first step to answering this question is to define “regulated hunting” itself. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines regulate as: “to control or supervise something by means of rules,” and defines hunting as: “the activity of hunting wild animals or game, especially for food or sport.” Through this, one can gather that regulated hunting would mean something along the lines of: “to control or supervise the activity of hunting wild animals or game by means of rules.” The primary objective of regulated hunting is to preserve wildlife for future generations to enjoy. In 1937, hunters requested a 11 percent tax on guns, ammo, bows and arrows. That tax raises 371 million dollars each year for conservation, and since its creation has raised over 8 billion dollars to be used towards wildlife conservation. Hunters themselves contribute 1.6 billion dollars each year specifically for wildlife conservation. Each day, sportsmen in America contribute 8 million dollars to conservation. Each year through hunting licenses and fees, sportsmen also contribute 796 million dollars to conservation, and overall hunters contribute 1.6 billion dollars to conservation efforts each year. These numbers prove that hunters, sportsmen and others contribute abundantly to efforts for conservation. Wildlife conservation organizations play a very important role in the preservation of wildlife species in the United States today. Organizations such as the Quality Deer Management Association, Ducks Unlimited, Quail Forever, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and others take part in many conservation projects each year to benefit and preserve wildlife. Organizations like these use donations as funds for many of the projects which are aimed toward replenishing struggling wildlife habitats and improving the health of struggling wildlife
