As more and more people in the United States of America live with chronic medical condition, and as the median age continue to age, long-term care providers are facing so many challenges and they will continue to do so. Quality of care has been a challenge, and will continue to be a challenge. Quality of care refers to the technical competency of medical and quasi-medical services (CITATION). Quality of care in nursing homes, even with all the substantial regulatory oversight, still remained problematic. There are however steps that can be taken to improve and promote quality of care in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

This is because, some caregivers often abuse the residents. This is really against the philosophy of service delivery. Since the philosophy of service delivery of ALFs is specially designed to take into consideration the individual’s choice, dignity, autonomy, independence, and quality of life. It is, therefore, imperative that all these should be followed to the letter so that quality of care can be improved. Apart from abuse, some ALFs do not have the right training to give medications. Some are not even aware that some medications, like narcotics, ought to be locked, not to talk of being double-locked, thus, they need to keep receiving training every now and then so that the facility will not be closed down and the residents will be better for it. Other ways that there could be more improvement in ALFs is for administrators to enforce the following regulations; food and nutrition, admission agreements and even discharge procedures, monitoring residents and prevention, fire safety and other emergency
