Essay On Personal Identity
There is an unfortunate reality in that there are millions of people around the world who are willing to do almost anything, even lose themselves, just so they can be accepted and become part of the crowd. To keep things in perspective, wanting to be accepted, wanting to fit in is not exactly a bad thing. In fact, it’s basic human nature for survival and social growth, and it starts at a very young age. During our developmental years, we feel the need to be accepted or be worthy of acceptance. This can’t be met when you are isolated, other people have to be involved if these needs are to be met.
If or/when these needs are not able to be met, then our emotional maturity are affected and sometimes our developmental progress id disturbed. So we constantly look for the approval and acceptance of others which is not exactly a bad thing but if your whole life is spent trying to get people to think very good of you or change their thoughts of you and then you can feel good about yourself then you are having an identity crisis because you have a lost identity. Which means that you have a sense of not knowing who you are, consciously. So what exactly is a "personal identity"? As we all know from self-awareness that it does, in fact, exist. What this means to say is that when a group of people are put together and one opinion is shared that seems okay then everyone in that group will jump on it and run with it. They will take that to mean that it is also their opinion without them having thought of it. So each person will not have formed their own opinion. They will just take what the other people say and think that it is right while not having their own opinion on why that
