Occupational therapy is a challenging and captivating job combining creativity and problem solving with the ability to make concrete, significant changes in a person's life.
Occupational therapy is a health and rehabilitation profession. Occupational therapists work with people of all ages who need specialized assistance to lead independent, productive, and satisfying lives due to physical, developmental, social, or emotional problems. Occupational therapists use the "occupations" of self-care, work, and play/leisure activities to increase independence, enhance development, and/or prevent disability. To achieve these goals occupational therapists may also adapt the task or the environment. As an OT you will use your knowledge, critical thinking, and hands-on skills to help others. Since occupational therapists work intensely with people, good personal skills such as good communication skills, an interest and commitment to serving or helping other people, and an interest in social and biological sciences are also helpful. Occupational therapy helps patients recover or develop skills needed for the activities of daily living, including self-care, leisure, independent living and work. The up-to-date curriculum that provides an incorporated preparation for not only traditional settings but also newly defined settings is one of the main reason I have a high interest the program. I regularly research how occupational therapy is evolving and the new ways occupational therapists are being integrated into many settings. I also find it important that the program is accredited and has a significantly high national certification exam pass rate. The strong focus of learning individuality of patients both physically and mentally to better their general success is an intriguing quality of the program. Overall, I feel like I would receive a valuable degree from Alvernia
