According to Kendra Cherry, psychology expert, “Narcissistic Personality Disorder is an uncommon disorder characterized by self-centeredness, lack of empathy and an exaggerated sense of self importance” Statistically, this disorder only affects one percent of the entire population, thankfully. It is a serious disorder in which affects men much more than women. This is probably because a lot of times men feel a sense of pride when they think somebody is trying to overpower them, and their natural leadership abilities can become a negative thing when someone else may want to lead. This diagnosis can last years or be lifelong, and unfortunately has no definite cure, but treatment may help a patient, if and only if the patient diagnosed with NPD recognizes that there is a problem, and is willing to change for the purpose of bettering their own life and the loved ones around them.

Some may think they deserve accolades for good deeds such as helping out the homeless or donating to certain charities; but early in adulthood some people take these qualities to a whole new level. These few traits belong to the narcissistic personality disorder. This mental disorder causes people to have an expanded sense of self importance , a continuing pattern of grandiosity, they feel the need to have admiration from others, they have a strong sense of entitlement and these people lack any type of feeling or empathy for anybody else.
