The American dream is something that people all over the world yearn for. They long to leave their native countries and come to America to escape religious persecution, unstable government, or something similar. Even well-established American citizens can have an American dream of their own. Many young adults, myself included, dream of a successful life where we work hard for what we wish to have. While many foreigners’ American dreams are of a life of freedom in the “Land of Opportunity”, my American dream is to find happiness, success in my life and career, and economic stability. My American dream is to graduate high school, graduate college, get my doctorate degree, and be successful in the field of my choice. I dream of I long to provide stability for my family financially and emotionally. I dream of living in Seattle with my two adorable children, my gorgeous, attentive husband and a yard full of pets. My dream may not seem huge to other people because it is entirely achievable for me, because I am an upper-middle class American. I am being raised in a family who works hard for what we have, in an environment with many opportunities, and few obstacles. But as newcomers to America, immigrants are so incredibly happy to be in America, my dream seems outrageous and completely out of reach for them. In order to be able to have a dream like mine, my ancestors had to start as newcomers. Eventually, the descendants of the people immigrating to America will be able to have dreams like mine. While my dream is to be successful and to provide for my family, outsiders envy the simple American freedoms that we take for granted, and they long to live a life like ours. It would not be possible for me to have a dream as great as mine if my relatives had not once begun to live their American dream.
