Essay On Mexican Stereotypes
The categories that I fall into consist of race, gender, and age. For my race I am categorized as Hispanic, for my gender I am a male, and for my age I'm 26 or young.
There are many known stereotypes about Hispanic people. As I have discuss one known one will discuss the one about every Hispanic person being Mexican. For some reason some people born in the United States have not been taught about the world and it countries. They seem to think that every Hispanic person regardless what continent they come from are Mexicans. Which makes me wonder if they seem to think that Spain, Central, and South America are part of Mexico. I have nothing against Mexican people, but we are being labeled by the Mexican stereotype. I remember while I was in recess talking with a friend of mine in spanish. A white kid came up to us and asked us if we were from Mexico. We told the kid we were from Peru and Venezuela. Then the kid said “ so you guys are Mexican” assuming that they were parts of Mexico. In middle school I decide to take cooking as an elective, being one of three boys in the class all the girls assumed we were gay. There more they got to know us the more they realized we were more interested in them then in the cooking.
The negative aspects of stereotypes contribution to the racism in this country. They lead people to believe that whole groups of people behave or act in the same way. This cause causes growing tensions between different groups of people. As they fail to realize that the actions of a few don't amount to the whole. I do not think there are any positive aspects to stereotypes. While I have heard of asians being good at math, black people being good at basketball, and spanish people being very friendly. In the end, that leads to dissatisfaction and confusion when the person cannot match their
