Macbeth is undoubtedly more evil than Lady Macbeth because of his ability to be so heartless and to carry out such atrocious actions. Not only did Macbeth play a significant role in the murder of King Duncan, but once he was crowned King he becomes conceited and angry believing that his position as King is worthless. This becomes a problem because he begins having evil thoughts and convinces himself that killing his best friend, Banquo, and his son, Fleance, would be the best option. According to Act 3 Scene 1, “Upon my head they placed a fruitless crown. And put a barren scepter in my grip, Thence to be wrenched with an unlineal hand, No son of mine succeeding. (MacBeth)” Macbeth is stating that according to the witch’s prophecy this “fruitless crown” and “barren scepter” is pointless, because he is simply holding a position that has been promised to be the fate

Overall, MacBeth believes in the witches’ prophecy and fears that his position will be ripped away so this causes him to have malicious thoughts and hires two murderers to kill both Banquo and Fleance. According to Act 3 Scene 1, “So is he mine; and in such bloody distance, That every minute of his being thrusts, Against my near’st of life. (MacBeth)” Macbeth is expressing his hate for Banquo to the murderer saying how every minute that Banquo lives it eats him alive. MacBeth is manipulating the murderer into feeling more hate toward Banquo, so that he will perform the evil deeds that MacBeth wants. To summarize, MacBeth is much more evil than Lady MacBeth, because initially she was the one who had to push him to carry out these malevolent deeds, but now he has taken initiative and has the ability to take action on his own. This includes hiring people to murder his best friend, Banquo, and his son. He has also become a master manipulator which is shown when he talks to the murderers and pressures him into killing Banquo by expressing his strong hate over Banquo in order to keep the crown and get his
