Homeland Security was created in the 21st century to help protect the citizens of the United States from terrorism. Homeland security also helps protect our borders, enforce and administer immigration laws, safeguard and secure cyberspace, and ensure resilience to disasters. Homeland Security was created after the terrorist attack on 9/11, it helped give the American people a sense of security knowing that something was done to help fight terrorism. The Patriot Act allows for the emergency disclosure of electronic communications to protect life and broadens the definition of terrorism to include acts of domestic terrorism (Ahima).
