Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Conway T. Witty, Chuck Berry, Big Joe Williams, Big Joe Turner, Little Richard, Bi Diddle, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Johnny Burnett, Vince Taylor, Itchier Valenti, Marlon Brando and James Dean. What do all of these people have in common? They were all figure heads of the greaser subculture. The subcultures of the 1950s impacted our world a lot after World War II. From the roots of the 1950s, the greaser subculture has had two main impacts which are their attitude and style. This specific subculture of the 1950s has impacted our world a lot. This culture really started popping up across the U.S. after World War II because after world war II the role of teenagers started to change because at this time the baby boomer era was becoming really big. Because of this, teenagers were starting to rebel. After WWII society was transitioning from a decade known for conformity and turning into something that believed in realizing that people are not all the same and can have different personalities from one another. Although they altered society the attitude only truly stayed around during the 1950s to 1960s. Because the decade that they mainly grew up in was known for conformity, teenagers after WWII rebelled as an act of getting noticed. In the years of the greasers they tried their hardest to get noticed and have a say in what they believed. The typical way that they acted was to not care about anyone but themselves. They used a lot of slang such as “antsville [meaning] a place full of people, chick in skins [meaning] woman in a fur coat, front burner [meaning] current crisis, germsville [meaning] an illness, ginchiest [meaning] coolest, and heels on fire [meaning] in a hurry”
