Poor decisions of one person can cause damage toward others as a whole. George W. Bush excuse to invade Iraq was to defend the United States from weapons of mass destruction. The 911 attacks was one of the justifications for Bush behavior to engage in war. “Cognitive dissonance theory suggests that people seek to avoid incongruity between their attitudes and their behavior (Kriesberg & Dayton, 2012, p. 178). Bush’s administrations proceedings to attack Iraq were consistent to protect the United States for further attacks. “Cognitive dissonance theory, for example, suggests that individuals seek consistency between what they do and what they think they should do” (Kriesberg & Dayton, 2012 , p. 145). Bush’s administration actions are based on doing something that was needed to be done, what was expected to be done by the U.S. “In short, committing bad deeds needs to be self-justified” (Kriesberg & Dayton, 2012 , p. 178)
