Essay On Dragon's Mistake
“Why must we hide Papa?” Philip asked his father. “Why can’t we go outside and play?” Captain Tory Smith looked at his son. The truth would hurt him greatly, he began to think. Instead of telling the full truth, he altered it. The Nazis are taking us to their death camps, Tory wanted to say. An invasion by the Nazis is going to happen to Denmark. However, it would traumatize his son. “There’s a big game of hide & seek. If we never get found, we will win a large prize,” Tory said with as much enthusiasm as he could. I doubt he’ll believe it, Tory thought to himself. Maybe he will, he is 6 after all.

Whilst packing their precious things, they began to hear the noises. The sounds of screams subsequently coming after gunshots. They needed to leave, now.

Arriving at their destination, their running halted. Many tears began to run down Philip’s face. “Will Mama come back?” Philip asked, sobbing. “No Philip, she’s gone now,” Tory replied, weeping as well. “It’s just the two of us now.”

No boat was in sight. “How can we leave without a boat?” Philip asked, starting to seem worried. Pacing back and forth, Philip began to have fear that they won’t survive.
On the other hand, Tory did not worry one bit. “Papa, how will we leave?” Philip repeated. While holding his son close to him, Tory said, “I am going to do something that may seem impossible, but trust that I know what I am doing.” Doubt was all Tory could interpret from Philip’s facial expressions. “Do you trust me?” Tory questioned. “Yes Papa, I do,” Philip affirming his father.

The lantern came off the ground as Tory picked it up. Then, he swung his lantern three times and slowly the schooner appeared. Awe and disbelief flooded Philip’s mind. He couldn’t believe what he saw, but he knew it wasn’t his
