Essay On Decriminalizing Marijuana
Marijuana is a stimulant, that’s currently illegal in the United States. Twenty-eight states have gone through various legislatives to decriminalize marijuana which accounts for 2,224,00 people incarnated across the United States [www.Drugpolicy.com]. Despite the medicinal advantages marijuana posses its still outlawed in majority of states. In the United States, the Controlled Substance Act classifies marijuana as a schedule I controlled substance. Schedule I drugs have a higher risk for abuse. LSD, GHB, MDMA, & Cocaine are a couple of drugs ranked amongst the category. Marijuana was outlawed in twenty-nine states by 1931, there were two primary reasons for the abolishment in the United States [Druglibrary.org].
After the Mexican Revolution of 1910, Mexican immigrants rushed to the United States boarders. With the new wave of immigrants, they brought along their culture introducing Americans to the counter culture of recreational use of marijuana. The drug was soon associated with immigrants. Fear and prejudice about the newcomers became associated with marijuana. Anti-drug advisors warned against the encroaching “Marijuana Mania,” and the …show more content…
