Essay About Dally's Death
Dally Winston’s death was sad for mostly all the greasers. He was a role model to them and people looked up to him. The day he died there was mourning for all the greasers. They had just lost one of their best friends, and Johnny. If Dally hadn’t died many things could’ve happened. He could’ve stayed the same, changed, and the book’s ending could’ve been entirely different.
The thing about Dally that would’ve stayed the same, is probably his personality. This is because it is so strong it is just so hard to change. He is tough, mean, risky, and overall a crazy person. These qualities you can’t change most of the time. He dedicated his whole life to trying to be the bad boy of the group, and really get out there. He succeeded doing this because many people were afraid of him, and many people generally loved him. “Dally hated to do things the legal way,” (Hinton 20). They would still have someone tough in the group. They would still have someone to count on when they need back up in a fight or in trouble. They don’t have this now because he died. They wouldn’t have been as sad because only one person died not two. The ending would've been much better than the actual ending because they wouldn’t have to know that their two best friends died on the same day. “Dally had been one of our gang and wouldn’t desert him”(Hinton 168). Even with Dally dead they still wouldn’t leave him, but it would be easier if he was still alive. In conclusion, Dally’s death really impacted the story. He was probably known as the leader of the greasers and the tough one. Without him the greasers aren’t really in order. He always knew what to do and when to do it. It was very sad to see him go, but everyone dies eventually. Sadly he died a little sooner. Overall, The story would’ve ended much better with Dally still
