“Courage is knowing what not to fear. (Plato)” Support from loved ones can give you courage, and courage can give you insight on what not to fear. You will feel more confident when someone is there to help you, so you will be able to overcome your troubles. The theme of the fictional story Rikki-tikki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling is that you can .…
Horace's quote,"Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.", simply means that people behave differently in the face of adversity. Facing adversity, it usually brings out the best in people or it leads for them to discover something that they knew not they could do. This quote helps in building a person's character and may also lead to self-discovery for the person while facing adversity.…
There is this simple saying; be your own superhero. Throughout a persons life, he will face many obstacles and some he will overcome, while others he may not. A person creates many relationships with others, some people will love and accept him for who he is, others will not. Often, one will not know why his peers do not like him, or if they even have a motif to. At the end of the day, it is how a person carries himself, and what he does about it that makes him a stronger individual. In the poem, “There Will Be No Peace,” W.N. Auden advises an individual who has been singled out to act with courage and honesty. I have noticed myself, on occasion, without any support but my own, having to be my own hero and how my own validation has helped me grow. Acts of courage can often develop and nurture personal integrity because when an individual has been singled out by a group, and must rely solely on himself to figure out his morals, he builds confidence and with that honesty, enforcing what he will stand for.…
Heroes aren’t brave because they have no fear, but because they are willing to overcome that fear. The denotation of courage is ‘the ability to do something that frightens one.’ A hero doesn’t display courage if he isn’t fearful of his circumstances or the actions he must take. The triumph over fear, overcoming something hard, dangerous, or frightening, is what shows bravery. Willingly going against fear-no matter how big it is-to rescue, save, or bring justice, is heroic. The former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, once said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” A cowardice may seem to have the simple way out, being subject to backing out and not having to face difficult situations, however, the act of bravery bears more fruit in character. While a coward reaps nothing more than a failure mentality, a hero-someone brave- overcomes fear and grows a mentality of endurance. After shying away from trials, a coward sees that he can’t do strenuous work (or won’t) and doesn’t try again, but a brave man sees that he can overcome hard things and is encouraged to jump over more hurdles.…
"The boy who is going to make a great man must not make up his mind merely to overcome a thousand obstacles, but to win in spite of a thousand repulses and defeats." The meaning behind Theodore Roosevelt’s quote is to not only overcome adversity, but win while doing so. One can’t just have the tools to be great, they have to use them. Those that use these tools are the ones that truly achieve greatness. The Roman poet Horace explained that “adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” Most everyone knows the difference between right and wrong, and when one is not in a situation that immediately demands such a decision it seems easy to make the right choice. To actually do the right thing, when the time calls for it, is a much more difficult. Basically Roosevelt is trying to say that one can win a million times, but if one defeat can cause them to never try again, then the past million times mean nothing. To rise after falling 1000 times and then winning, that is truly overcoming adversity and achieving greatness.…
“When stop chasing the wrong things, you give the right things a chance to catch you.” (Unknown) Many people get scored to show their courage for the right thing. What gives you and your peers to do the right thing with courage? Your peers and yourself do have courage because people do have that someone in life, that helps encourage them. It's just buried inside and you need to show people you're courage to do the right thing. People just don’t want to disappoint anyone.…
finally in the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley "I am the master of my fate and I am the captain of my soul" which means in life's hard troubles you are the master of your fate so when you face adversity in your home at work or even walking down the street just remember that you are the master of your fate and that you have to choices to keep trying or to fail. you will face adversity…
Adversity is what creates drive in every human being. It is the monster and fear in all of our nightmares, the bad, testing our willingness to be good, pushing us to fight back, to learn its ways, and to appreciate. However dire or subordinate, it is what allows us to perform extraordinary measures, better ourselves morally, and acquire many other character-defining qualities and lessons we need throughout life. The Roman poet, Horace, expresses adversity perfectly as having “the effect of eliciting talent which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” In this way, it is the adversity or challenge that is key to gaining these talents or qualities, and the prosperous circumstance or lack of any suffering or challenging that acts as a deterrent. All good is taken away from facing adversity in one form or another, for you can only know true prosperity once you have overcome true adversity.…
Fear exists in everyone. No one lives without fear. Being fearless is not required to be courageous, one has to overcome fears in order to possess courage. Risks are involved when overcoming fears and going against the norm. Risks come in different types, risking life, risking reputations, risking limb. The greatest risk “is not taking any risk” (Mark Zuckerberg). A person must have courage to endure each particular risk. A person who is not courageous enough to take risks will “accomplish nothing in life” (Muhammad Ali). Courage happens anytime, anywhere, and any day. Courage is experienced by all; no matter how young, old, wise, or foolish. The effect of courage may not be positive, however, the outcome is remembered. The rewards have the potential to be great, but so do the…
“Courage means doing something even though it can be difficult and fearsome,” is a quote that is very true. The dictionary definition of courage is “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc.” I think a perfect example of this thought would be a recent high school graduate joining the military. With wars raging all over the world, a solider is almost guaranteed to be on the front line. A young man or woman who has their whole life ahead of them, to look forward to, has to have a lot of courage to face the gruesome challenges of a military life. Nobody knows what this life is like until it’s you in this position. I am sure the challenges of this job are both difficult and fearsome in more than one way. These people have to have lots of courage to put themselves in this position. Police officers also have to have this courage to risk their lives every day to protect citizens of the community from danger. Firemen have the courage to go into a burning building to save other people. This would be very fearsome and a difficult task to do. Doctors, pilots, and just regular people face problems that involve courage. There are many more examples of this. These are just some of the reasons I believe that the statement “Courage means doing something even though it can be difficult and fearsome,” is…
The quote I have chosen is, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm”. This is one of Winston Churchill's most well known quotes. This quote was said during his reign as the Prime Minister of Great Britain. It is unknown as to where this quote came from but I found it to be very captivating. I feel like Churchill is trying to get the point across that in life it is normal to not be perfect. Everyone makes mistakes and each failure shapes you as a person. Churchill is saying that if you put your mistakes in the past without changing who you are, it makes you stronger and more successful than someone who fails to do so. Being afraid of failure gets you nowhere in life so Churchill is stating that everyone should strive with great enthusiasm in order to be their best self.…
Courage is often called “The Rarest Virtue”, mostly because it is identifying things that frighten or challenge us and facing them with confidence and bravery. A small number of people fully accomplish this. Unfortunately, many do not choose to face tough situations, instead they walk away. Very few people actually choose to act with courage and confront the circumstances.…
Luck has always been a word that can stir up a debate on whether or not it exists. Some people believe luck exists and there’s nothing you can do to change your failure or success. Yet there are others that believe the actions you partake in to reach many opportunities will determine success or failure. Personally I agree with the following notion by Oprah Winfrey that says “luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” My reasons for agreeing are because the actions you take will always determine your outcome and preparation is a great factor when faced with any and all opportunities.…

It means that if we lack courage to hold on to our beliefs in the moment of testing, no just when everybody agrees with our opinion but also when they go against opposition, then our beliefs are superficial and weak and add nothing to our self respect for our virtues.…
