Starguiders are girls unanimously chosen by counselors to be emerging leaders. As a starguider I would focus on girls who were having a difficult time at camp or who were homesick and find a way to help them. We also did a service project for the camp each year in order to keep the camp looking its best. One year we made a bunk notes box to be placed by the office. Bunk notes were letters that parents could write to their kids, and then the kids would write one in return and give it to the office to have it emailed to the parents. Giving the letters directly to the office had began to be disorganized. We measured the size of the papers to make the box and then we painted it with the colors of the camp. We painted a star in the middle, a symbol that the starguiders had made it.…

Scouting has had a tremendous effect on my life since I first started as a Cub Scout. Principles of honor, respect, and responsibility were introduced to me and then developed further through Boy Scouts. These themes have benefited me up to now and will continue to assist me in the future. The next five years of my life will include high school and the start of college. Throughout scouting, I have learned that it is up to me to do the merit badges and complete my part through self-discipline. Self-discipline will keep me focused and attentive with my schoolwork in high school and in college. I am able to distinguish the time for completing my class work and time to be with my friends. I also have been able to develop my ability in communicating…

Beautiful, flawless dolls such as Barbie are frequently the first source of association that little girls have with the values placed on them by society. Parents give little toddlers dolls, miniature stoves, and cherry-candy colored lipsticks (2-4) for playthings. This would seem innocent enough, but already the guidelines are being set for what society at large expects girls to be. At this young age, little girls cannot really differ from what is expected since they are under the complete influence of their parents.…
