ESL is necessary
Why English is necessary English is the most popular language in the world now, and learning English is the most important for living in the United States of America. I am an ESL student who is studying in the United States, and I am so sure that English is necessary for everyone. To my mind, the benefits of taking ESL classes can be improve one's academic writing and making more friends. First of all, taking an ESL course can improve one's academic writing. Most of the people try to learn the second language by themselves either from the website or the library. They usually need a teacher to tell them the correct way to write and speak. For example, students turn in the writing in the class and the next time, the teacher will give back the essay with some comments. Thus, students can find out the weakness quickly and try to improve themselves. In addition, the effect of taking ESL course, students can make friends with native English speaker more easily. Having the same purpose with their classmates, students can have a lot of common topics and try to meet each other usually out of the class. For instance, students can hang out and keep practicing with their friends. Sometimes, the native English friends help students to correct their pronounces. It gives them more chances to speak and would really improve their ability quickly. Taking ESL classes is really helpful in student progress at college or university and social students can speak and writing English as a native American and they could make friends with native English speaker more easily. That why learning English is very important, and it also become the common language of whole world. The benefits of taking ESL classes are proved so I highly recommend everyone take it, and it will make your life is more successful.

All students who are learning English as a second language have similar needs. They need to build their oral English skills as well as developing their skills in reading and writing English. Developing English language skills has to occur at the same time ESL students are continuing the learning process in the other content areas. It is important to note that not all English Language Learning students are familiar with the Latin alphabet. For example, students whose first language is Arabic or Chinese have a writing system that is much different than ours. This can make it harder for them to learn to speak, read and write English.…

The benefits of learning a foreign language go beyond learning a different culture or being able to communicate with people of different backgrounds. It is essential that Americans speak languages other than English in order to compete internationally, keep the country safe, and prepare children to be world citizens. Several language organizations, educators, and policy makers have recommended the introduction of a second language at the elementary school level as a way of assuring a high level of language proficiency (Pufahl and Rhodes 273).…

It is beneficial for newcomers to find some people who can help them by speaking the language they've grown up with. It is also good for the foreign language-learning English speaker, who builds skills and confidence with the language by being helpful and applying the language to practical things like that. Not to mention that it makes online game play, forums, and chatting much less frustrating when you can understand what your fellow players are saying in their own language.…

After interviewing Suma, I got a better understanding on other peoples views on ELL students. Suma is my age and knows four other languages. She is not the only person out there that is bilingual. The U.S. Had a huge development in the number of English Language Learners at the beginning of the 21st century and increased the need in most public schools that provided special language instruction. I believe that it is very important. Like Suma said during my interview, “language equals deep understanding”, and the more time you put towards a specific language, the more you learn and the better you understand.…

There are three main areas where a student can excel by knowing a second language. The first is mentally. According to Viorica Marian, being bilingual can help a student “to better process information in the environment, leading to a clearer signal for learning,” (“The Cognitive Benefits of Being Bilingual” Marian). Cognitive and sensory processes can improve as well. Because of this, bilingual students have been known to have an easier time accessing newly learned words, giving them a more extensive vocabulary than monolingual students. Not only does knowing a second language help a person cognitively, but also socially. A bilingual person has an easier time connecting with people from other cultures; accordingly, they have a better understanding of culture and how others differ from their own. This is especially important because immigration rates in the United States are growing rapidly. Also, being proficient in a language before interacting with a foreign speaker can help break an initial language barrier, allowing the two people to connect on a deeper level. A third benefit of being multilingual is having a greater advantage career wise. The world is becoming more advanced in technology, allowing for an expansion to foreign countries for a business. This creates a higher demand for multilingual people to translate documents, conduct…

Allowing an English speaker to learn another language and exposing them to new cultures can help them to better “understand, to recognize cultural difference, and… to appreciate traditions, including one’s own (source A). After I read “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan, “The Myth of the Latin Woman: I Just Met a Girl Named Maria” by Judith Ortiz Cofer, and “Two Ways to Belong in America” by Bharati Mukherjee, I understand that the familiarity with the English language affect the authors a lot. All of those three writers share the same attitude that learning English can affect people’s lives. I totally agree with these three writer’s opinions that English can affect people and I think people who live in the United States should speak English fluently. Everybody looks at English in many different ways. Some people think that English is just a language that can make a connection with other people; some people think that English is a tool which can be used in work and there are also some people who think that English is the best way to speak with family members. There are both advantages and disadvantage for learning English as a second language. The advantages are that learning English can make family members closer and can help people to find a better job; but as a second language, English is hard to learn.…

Throughout my years in High School I enjoyed having core subjects in English and I always remember Mr. Jones who was my English Teacher in 10th and 11th grade. He never spoke a word in Spanish and if you dare ask a question in Spanish he would ask you to pause, think and formulate your question in English. It was a good experience for my classmates who were making an effort to learn the language but at the same time afraid to make mistakes. Mr. Jones said many of you are fluent in English some aren’t that fluent but, one thing is truth: there is always room for improvement. It was motivating to know that we all had to communicate in English during class and for group assignments which allowed collaborative learning.…
