Hi Christian, I have seen a few episodes of Friends although it has been awhile, but I agree Phoebe does show Agape style of love to her friends. I like how you mention this though, since this shows that the different love styles are also involved in purely platonic relationships and not just romantic relationships. I also feel that Romeo And Juliet shows an Eros type of love, along with a large bit of mania type of love, since they are both so obsessed with each other and they cannot live without the other as well. Overall, I thought your post was excellent and very informative.

    How Is Love Presented in Romeo and Juliet and Two Poems from the Shakespeare Literary Heritage

    Love is presented in a variety of different ways in Romeo and Juliet and my chosen poems from the Literary Heritage: Stop All the Clocks and Sonnet 130. For instance, in Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare is attempting to challenge the tradition of courtly love that was prominent in the Elizabethan era. He is suggesting that the tradition of courtly love is artificial and essentially false. Courtly love was a hidden love between the nobility in medieval times. In Sonnet 130 Shakespeare has a different goal; he is attempting to challenge the traditional Petrarchan sonnet that was popular at the time. These sonnets were grand declarations of love but also seemed rather overblown and unnecessarily dramatic. W.H. Auden’s poem Stop All the Clocks is dramatic and very emotional, however this is justified in this instance as his lover has died. This would undoubtedly be an exceedingly traumatic experience.…

    Often throughout our society, we tend to judge people based on our first glance appearance. Many teenagers can relate to this because the moment that they are attracted to someone they see for the first time, they think that they have fallen in love. That is not love, in fact it is the main definition for the term infatuation. Many people are familiar with the story of Romeo and Juliet, which is told to be the “greatest love story” ever to exist. Shakespeare does do a good job on describing a story of two very different people coming together. What he does not do is create a strong relationship between the infatuated lovers. An author that does do a good job at this is John Steinbeck, who wrote Of Mice and Men. Steinbeck describes two main characters (Lennie and George) who are very contrasting to one another, but bring very similar values that lead to a strong relationship. Although Romeo and Juliet do specific things that are on the right track of a good relationship, George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men develop a stronger relationship because they share the same independent goals, they help one another out, and lastly, they fill in each other's missing piece to the puzzle.…
