Erikson's Personality Theory: Late Adolescence
In early adolescence Rekha try to figure out where she fit in into the world. She started struggling with her self- esteem, coping mechanisms and temper. When puberty hit Rekha was consider an early bloomer. Early maturing was common in the Desai family, so it was no surprise for Rekha to experience puberty before most of her classmates. These foreign changes brought on unwanted attention from classmates and family friends who wanted to offer a dowry for Rekha to have an arranged marriage with their son. The thought of arrange marriage stressed Rekha out. For girls, early maturation is generally associated with greater storm and stress (Blewitt and Broderick, 2015). With sexual maturation comes mood swings. Rekha had increased moodiness.

inferiority crisis. This crisis is signified by youth becoming more capable of making decisions that will affect whom they are and/or will become in their adult life. This is the stage of development that helps to set the foundation for developing a sense of self (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). It was at the age of fifteen when Rekha met who she hoped her parents would pick for her future husband, Uday. This relationship stemmed from a very innocent friendship, but quickly blossomed into much more. Flannery et al. describe earlier maturing girls as being more likely to be involved in delinquent activities, like sex for example (Steinberg & Morris, 2001). This was the very case for Rekha. her was exposed to sex in her late adolescent years before her arrange marriage. In indian culture it is highly recommended the daughters to be virgins before their arrange marriage, but unlike her mother, grandmother, and many women before Rekha broke that mold. Silbereisen stated, “early- maturing females spend more time with older adolescents, particularly older boys, and that these relations have a negative influence on their adjustment (Steinberg & Morris, 2001).” It was at this part of Rekha’s life that began her on a path of living a double life. She was a perfect angel at home and on weekends she was a carefree teen living wild and free at her
