Equal Rights - Argument
Equal Rights
Abortion is not a decision to be taken lightly. It is not a decision that the mother should make on her on either. Abortion should be a mutual decision between both parents. It should only be the mother’s choice if the father is not willing to care for the baby. It takes both a man and woman to create a child; therefor it should take both a man and a woman to make the decision to abort their child. After all a child is no more the mother’s than it is the father’s. When a woman makes the decision to keep the child, she expects financial support and help raising the child from the child’s father; therefore, she should ask for the father’s opinion when it comes to abortion, because the father could want to raise the baby on his own. Fathers are responsible for their children as much as mothers. Fathers should be afforded the same rights and privileges to the child as the mother if they choose to raise the baby alone. When a woman seeks an abortion she should be required to give the identity of the father. Before she is able to have the abortion, she should obtain his written authorization. If the father chooses not to abort the child, then the mother should honor his decision and think of an alternate decision. The mother can always give the child to the father after birth. If the mother claims the father is unknown, unavailable, or incapable of providing consent then the mother should get a legal document proving such. If an abortion is performed without the father’s consent, then he should have the right to impose a lawsuit on the mother of his child. No father should have his child taken away from him. The only cases where I believe that right can be taken are when a woman has been raped, or if the mother’s health is at risk. If a mother has valid medical evidence that the pregnancy would be a danger to her health then that evidence should override a father’s decision to have the baby. Women should not be forced to take unnecessary health risks

In “Abortions in America,” a study states, “…51 percent had problems with a relationship or wanted to avoid single parenthood (Waldman, Ackerman, Reed, Greenburg, Cutter, Sieder, and Lavelle)…” Henceforth, more than half of abortions occur because of relationship problems or the avoidance of single parenthood. So, if these women had their right of abortion revoked, they would have had to either leave the child in the care of the adoption system, file for welfare which may not help very much, or raise the child alone which could lead to mentally stressing both the parent and the child creating an environment unsuitable for a child to be raised. Thus, abortion should be legal to prevent this from happening more frequently in the United States and around the world. Moreover, in “Missing the Boat on Pregnancy Prevention,” it states, “almost three-fourths of births to single women began as unintended conceptions, and more than one-half of the births to formerly married women are a result of unintended conceptions (Hogue).” Therefore, to help prevent these women from having to deal with single motherhood because of unintended pregnancies, they should have the legal right to choose abortion. This is able to be seen when single motherhood can cause social strains on both the mother and the child but can also lead to family…

According to When Religion and Politics mix , “a fetus is a unborn human being, and it is morally wrong to take a human life; the unborn child's life must consequently be legally protected.” A woman should have the right to do what she wants to do with her body and her life, but not with another human being. According to Vieira, the baby is entitled to his or her rights to life and to have a chance in this world (Vieira 1). A baby should not have to lose his or her life because of the parents decisions. A baby is a human just like the mother and father. The parents are responsible for their own actions and should have to deal the consequences. The baby should not be punished because of his or her parents decision. If the mother does not want the baby, they should chose another option.…

“Should Parental Involvement Be Required for Minors ' Abortions?” by Hyman Rodman. In 1973, the U.S Supreme Court gave constitutional authorization to women’s’ right to abortion after Roe vs. Wade case. “The basis for the Court 's decision was a woman 's right to privacy: "This right of privacy, whether it be founded in the Fourteenth Amendment 's concept of personal liberty and restrictions upon state action, as we feel it is, or, as the District Court determined, in the Ninth Amendment 's reservation of rights to the people, is broad enough to encompass a woman 's decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy"…

    Is Abortion Morally Wrong

The father has fifty percent of the genetic code in the child even though he does not carry the child around the child is still part of the father in the genetic code. The father will always have an influence in making decisions regarding the baby’s life for example the father provides some financial support to the child and helps the mother by helping to provide a place for her to live as well as food to eat. It was brought up in some research that was read through that the mother donates more genetic material then men but that’s not the case the mother and father both give almost the same amount of chromosomes the ones that are not quite the same are the sex chromosomes. Saying that one parent gives .006 percent more of a chromosome that is not even one percent more. The father is letting the mother borrow the sperm to make a baby. Putting sperm in a women is like putting your money in a bank he may not have his money on him but it’s still his and he owns it. A mother can’t own the baby since the baby is a human being and that is impossible to own another human. I feel the principles of rights should be applied to fathers having the right to voice their option to the fact if their unborn child is going to be aborted or not. If the mother decides she does not what the baby but the…

Personally, I think that any form of abortion is tantamount to murder, and should never be permitted. This article only brings to my attention that women who wish to have abortions are only concerned for themselves, as the argument is based upon the health of the woman. Although the author’s argument may be valid concerning some facets of the issue, I believe the focus of the subject should shift from the mother to the living creature inside and its right to…

Jonathan Glover, in his article Matters of Life and Death casts dispersions on both pro-abortion and anti-abortion debates citing them as too knee-jerk emotional reactions diminishing the inherent complexity of the other side (1. Glover, CC2006, p. 0110). Glover comprehensively addresses the key points of both sides of the abortion debate and evaluates their inherent virtues, especially for those who hold these opinions, then methodically points out its flaws. Ultimately, Glover comes to the conclusion that though a fetus is a human at the moment of conception, the right to abort lies with the mother and her own self-determination.…

Abortion is one of the most controversial and frequently debated topics in the world. The fact that the topic involves a persons right to choice, the ethical and moral question of what's right or wrong as well as what the definition of murder constitutes, it can easily be rejected or approved by a wide variety of people depending on their personal beliefs. Over the past few generations there have been much advancement in women's liberation and their right to choice. They have been granted the right to vote, females are much more accepted and now even welcomed into the workforce, they have the right to an education, and there are much more women in business and politics now than there ever was. Unfortunately, due to the many ethical issues that are brought up in the abortion debate, the fight for women's rights has not yet been settled. It has been suggested that abortion should not only be banned, but that the act of aborting a child should be considered as equally harmful as murder as it is suggested to be the deliberate killing of a human child. This paper will argue that allowing women the right to abortion is vital to their rights as a human being and their self determination. Furthermore it will explain that the ethical issues when dealing with abortion should not be solely focused on what is right or wrong but based on circumstance of the conception and whether or not the woman is prepared to bear a child.…

In regards of “bad” lifestyles, many people ask, “What if a women is raped?” In that case, abortion is still not justified. The father can chose if he wants to be in or out of the child’s’ life. Although he may rape again, he should still have the legal power to fight for custody. Every child needs a mother and a father to grow up well rounded. In the instance of a rape, if the parents do not want their child knowing the reason for their existence, they can choose to keep in a secret.…

As American’s and women we have the right to freedom and independence, with that concept, I believe that our government needs to trust that women have the capability to choose what is best for their future. Our society should respect women’s independence and grant them the freedom to decide what is right. This issue is important to me because history has shown that restricting abortions, not only undermines women, but can also be very dangerous.…

The debate on abortion is one that still to this day has been constantly argued. This argument can be historically dated back to 1973, where a popular case was brought into the Supreme Court. This was the Roe V Wade case, which legalized abortions in “abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without restrictions and with restrictions in later months” (Lewis). Jane Roe was the alias for Norma McCorvery. She was the one arguing that in Texas there should be abortions allowed due to the protection of her rights as well as many other women that she was speaking for. The argument of abortion, however, works well beyond just the “rights” of the women wanting it. There is death involved as well as responsibilities that apparently many women aren’t ready for. However there are certain circumstances in which the pregnancy might not have been exactly planned or the child wouldn’t be safe in the living conditions of its parents. In this case, abortion should still not be looked at instead adoption should be thought about. The Roe V Wade case should be reconsidered to only have an abortion done if it was absolutely vital to the person asking for it.…

The number of abortions today is almost 1.5 million a year, which is about 30% of all pregnancies (McConnell). Too many women are getting abortions as a means of birth control. The Supreme Court needs to restrict abortions to women who have been raped, been victims of incest, if the child will die at a young age, or if the woman's health is in danger. By reading this paper, the reader will gain an understanding of why abortions need to be restricted. Although abortions are necessary they need to be limited.…

Abortion is among the most controversial of issues in American politics today, and can be seen as a fight against killing a fetus, while others are willing to argue that they are infringing on their personal freedoms. It is a woman’s right to choose what she does with her body, and no one entity should be able to decide how to take away such choices. These freedoms are given and protected by the Constitution. Regardless of this major debate, there are approximately 1.5 million abortions performed every year.…

The Virginia Military Institute was a higher education school in Virginia. It claimed to train the leaders of the future, or “citizen-soldiers” and impart to its students great discipline; however, it only enrolled male students. In 1996, the United States government sued the state of Virginia and the Virginia Military Institute for its male-only policy as a violation of the Fourteenth amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. The District Court ruled in the school’s favor. The Fourth Circuit “reversed and ordered Virginia to remedy the constitutional violation” (Van Camp). In return, Virginia proposed a similar program for women: the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership, which would be located at Mary Baldwin College, a private liberal arts…

Abortion not only hurt women and baby, but also for the society. The advanced medical equipment cannot guarantee there will not be any side effects. Although the possibility of side effects is getting smaller, it still puts women’s life at risk. Women feel pain during the procedure of abortion. Even though anesthetics avoid the pain during the procedure, it is only temporary. Women still feel pain when the effect is gone. Also, the psychological shadow is difficult to heal. The mental shadow will stay in the women’s mind for a long time. In the same way, Abortion hurt the babies. It deprived the fundamental right from them. When a fetus formed, it has its own right to live. As abortion reduces the number of available children for adoption, many infertility couple’s life becomes meaningless. They have less chance to adopt an unwanted baby. Therefore, abortion is not the best choice for…
