Equal Employment Opportunity laws prohibit specific types of job discrimination in the workplaces. The department of Labor has two agencies which deal with EEO monitoring and enforcement, the Civil Rights Center. The EEO is an independent federal agency that promotes equal opportunity in employment through administrative and judicial enforcement. Job applicants and employees file claims with the EEOC if they have reason to believe that they were discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, or disability, or believe that they have been discriminated against because of opposition to a prohibited practice or participation in an equal- employment opportunity matter”
