    Equiano

The book, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African, is the autobiography of Olaudah Equiano, a male African slave during the eighteenth century, which discusses his time spent in slavery, his Christian faith, and his accomplishment of buying his own freedom. However, the thing that I found most interesting about the reading was the incident when Pascal sold Equiano to Captain James Dorn. I found this so interesting because Equiano had not anticipated on being sold as he said to Captain James Dorn, “But I served [Pascal]… many years and he has taken all my wages and prize money… besides this I have been baptized; and by the laws of the land no man has the right to sell me” (Equiano 69). Equiano’s feeling of surprise after realizing he had been sold was due to the fact that he believed he had a connection with Pascal. Equiano had professed a growing attachment to Pascal before his removal from Pascal’s ship, which can be seen when his master was wounded and taken below deck to the surgeons and Equiano states “…though I was much alarmed for him and wished to assist him I did not dare leave my post” (Equiano 61). The bond Equiano perceived between himself and Pascal blurred his vision of reality, and made him believe he was something that he was not. At the end of the day, he is still a slave and subsequently a piece of.…

In a Hispanic household the language that is spoke is considered Spanish. Under the “umbrella” term Hispanic you have a breakdown of the different types of Hispanics such as Mexicans, Puertoricans, Dominicans, Cubans and Panamanians that speak Spanish but their words have similar yet different meanings. Usually in an older generation Hispanic household the language is spoken by everyone including the children. When speaking to outsiders the Hispanic family prefers to speak Spanish unless the other individual does not understand it. It is very hard for the older generation of Hispanics to attempt to speak to the new generation because the newer generation speaks English. Many older generation Hispanics were never really taught how to speak English.…

Peru is located on the west coast of South America, bordered by the South Pacific Ocean, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile. Peru can be divided into three major regions, Costa (Coast) - the 3,079-kilometer (1,900 mile) Pacific Coastline; Sierra (Andes) - the central Andean Highlands; Selva (Amazon Basin) — the remote eastern vastness of the Amazonian jungle. The best know of these is the central high sierra of the Andes, with its massive peaks, steep canyons, and extraordinary pre- Columbian archaeological sites. The Andes are still one of the world 's most unstable mountain ranges, with frequent earthquakes, landslides, and flash floods. Peru is South America 's third largest country. The absolute location of Peru is 10 degrees south and 76 degrees west.…

Peru, in western South America, extends for nearly 1,500 mi (2,414 km) along the Pacific Ocean. Colombia and Ecuador are to the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east, and Chile to the south. Five-sixths the size of Alaska, Peru is divided by the Andes Mountains into three sharply differentiated zones. To the west is the coastline, much of it arid, extending 50 to 100 mi (80 to 160 km) inland. The mountain area, with peaks over 20,000 ft (6,096 m), lofty plateaus, and deep valleys, lies centrally. Beyond the mountains to the east is the heavily forested slope leading to the Amazonian plains.…

Even though most of Latin America became independent of European colonial rule in the 19c, what were some of the cultural influences and other ties that still existed between the two continents? Between 1810 and 1825, all the Spanish territories on the American mainland gain their sovereignty from Spain. Simultaneously, the power of the Catholic Church diminishes, including its patronage of the visual arts. During these war-torn years, cultural production declines. These years witness political reform and the beginnings of self-fashioned societies. Caudillos or military dictators initially fill the vacuum left by the break-up of colonial rule, including Juan Manuel de Rosas (1793–1877) in Argentina, Francisco Solano López (1827–1870) in Paraguay, and Juan José Flores (1800–1864) in Ecuador. Economically, there is a slow adaptation to the world economy. A growing awareness of the continent's enormous natural riches and economic potential lead technological development and an intense nationalism.…
