Mylan: Increased Prices of EpiPens
1. Determine the facts
• Sheldon Kaplan first created the ComboPen for the U.S Military in the 1970’s which was filled with nerve gas antidote.
• Was created to mediate anaphylaxis, a sever allergic reaction that can be caused by consumption of peanuts or touching latex.
• An EpiPen is an injection that contains epinephrine, which is a chemical that narrows the bloods vessels and opens airways in the event an allergic reaction reaction.
• EpiPen (epinephrine) is a single dose auto-injector that delivers a single dose of epinephrine during an allergic reaction.
• EpiPens are manufactured by King and is distributed by Mylan.

In the event of increased prices of EpiPens, Mylan, Insurance Companies, PBMs, Pharmacists, and wholesalers are the ones who gain more profit from it whereas the customers are being cheated from such an expensive device. From a business POV, it would be good to increase the prices to profit more, however it is a loss for customers because it is an expensive thing to invest in especially for something that is critical between life and death. In a way, I hold a biased viewpoint as a medical patient because its service and medication does get expensive. Personally, my family is not well off enough to afford an EpiPen, so I would also be outraged at the increased price for a product that is cheap to produce; If I were to pay $600 for a two pack of epipens, I would expect more out of it for the price that I am …show more content…
-They can also lose money because people could resell their epipens at a greater price to other people.
-Mylan can restore their corrupt reputation among customers.
-It would be more affordable for the customers who are financially needy.
- However, for those who were not able to qualify for the program, they would still be impacted and would still be unhappy to pay the original price of $600.
- People could possibly take advantage of this program and find a way to cheat the system like resell epipens.
