Envy: The Seven Deadly Sins
Envy is known as “one of the seven deadly sins,” as told by Robert Solomon. Envy means, to want something without merit, or without a rightful claim over it. As a person grows envious, they show off their possessions, or belongings to provoke envy in others; this often leads to an increase in their own self-esteem. Ordinarily, people will become envious because, of a valuable possession someone holds, or, a certain feature (a person has). In fact, one of the main reasons, envy is considered a sin is because, it causes a person to lose their respect.
What is the merit aspect of envy? “One envies another for some advantage…It is wanting something without merit…At the heart of envy is an invidious comparison (he has it, I don’t)…It is wanting

Jealousy is a part of the world that people as a whole tend to ignore. We as a group of individuals don't want to admit to ourselves that we feel insecure, and want to be in someone else's position. Throughout history a lot of the wars that occurred happen because of rulers being jealous of what other people have. A couple of examples would be the Revolutionary War, and the American Indian war. In the Revolutionary War Great Britain was jealous of what America had in its land and didn’t want the pilgrims to have it all to themselves, so they heavily taxed tham and tried to keep them under their rule so that they could always have it.…

Before I continue, I just wanted to clarify a misconception. Some people get envy confused with jealously. To me, jealously has a negative and dangerous connation. Obsessive, unlawful, greedy, and unnatural sexual desire establish the core of lust, one of the seven deadly sins. Consuming in its very essence, it rots away at anything that was once considered pure or moral. Dashiell Hammett 's "Red Harvest" and Bram Stoker 's "Dracula" are stories that effectively demonstrate the disastrous and catastrophic effects on society by the unbridled greed, ambition and lust of its inhabitants. Most importantly, both the characters of Dracula and Dinah Brand use sexuality and lust as a launching pad for their blind greed. Their decisions to follow their ravenousness hunger for personal gain, either financially or substantially, throw their respective societies into a nightmarish world where terror and horror rules. The disastrous and sinful mix of ambition, greed and lust is quite apparent through both novels, as is the use of this mix on and by female characters that are supposed to be traditionally pure. These very factors prove to be too much for both Personville and Whitby, disintegrating the core that was once was seen as a functioning society.…

Greed is the inordinate desire to possess wealth, goods, or objects of abstract value with the intention to keep it for one's self, far beyond the dictates of basic survival and comfort. It is applied to a markedly high desire for and pursuit of wealth, status, and power. Greed is bad because it stems from, and strengthens, the mistaken belief that your personal value and identity relate to the things you possess and control, instead of who you are and what you do. It promotes the idea the little 'me' that wanders around in this temporary shell is my true self, and undermines the 'I'; the true relationship and living identity with all that is, and thereby supports, strengthens and promotes the Fear that is born of loss and separation from the one. "I" and "you" are but the lattices in the niches of a lamp, through which the one light…
