Environmental Fundamentals
Introduction
Environmental science is defined as the study of the environment and the interconnecting systems it contains, furthermore, the way people interact with their natural surroundings and use natural resources (wise geek, 2013). Scientist in this field is highly interdisciplinary and extremely diverse, for example, a scientist might study volcanoes or climate change. This essay will cover the following; the definition of environmental science, the relationship between science and technology and how it affects environmental problems; the concept of environmental sustainability and why it should be studied; how human values affect sustainability; and finally how environmental hazards affect human health.
Definition of Environmental Science
Environmental science is the study of the environment and the interconnecting systems as well as the way people interact with their natural surroundings and the use of natural resources (wise geek, 2013). Environmental studies incorporate more of the social sciences for understanding human relationships, perceptions and policies toward the environment. “A program that focuses on the application of biological, chemical, and physical principles to the study of the physical environment and the solution of environmental problems, including subjects such as abating, or controlling environmental pollution and degradation; the interaction between human society and the natural environment; and natural resources management” (Natural Center for Education Statistics, 2010).
Relationship between Science and Technology

The marriage between science and technology is the best thing since peanut butter and jelly. Infrastructure in society has greatly benefitted with the help of science and technology. Modes of transport like electric railway lines were discovered and are a better means of transport (Muzaffar, 2009).

We humans have a long history of polluting our air, water, and soil. This contamination not only hurts nature, but is dangerous to people. Luckily, environmental engineers are on the job. They use math and science to clean up the messes we've made and prevent new ones from happening. For example, they might figure out how to clean up toxic material that has seeped into the ground at an old gas station or design an effective way to treat wastewater.…
