Environment, Age, and Exposure's Effect on Cancer
DBQ Cancer is "a set of diseases that results from failure to control the cell cycle due to genetic, environmental and behavioral factors". This is the verbatim definition i was taught in Biology class. Cancer like stated in the above definition has more than just one way to be caused. Some of these causes one could even refer to it as an initiator to the trend or factor percentages of Cancer .There are several factors that have been discovered with medical research but some show stronger associations with cancer. Throughout this essay we can examine how environment, age, and exposure can have an effect on the trend of cancer in cases. One of the bigger causes of cancer is environmental factors. These factors include food, drink, smoking habits and the environment around you. Smoking is one of the leading causes od lung cancer, and skin cancer is most commonly caused by being out in the sun too much without protection. "cancer rates differ from country to country"(document B) based on the environment they are living in. This has been observed that when people move two a different country the cancer rates of the family will usually change within a generation or two. One of the more common examples is, "Japanese women living in Japan have low rates of breast cancer, but Japanese women who soon over to the U.S have U.S rates of breast cancer" (document B). This explains from a backed up point that environmental factors are one of the more leading causes of effecting cancer rates. Age is another main cause as to having such a high effect on cancer rates. Cancer is more commonly found in people of an older age over younger. this can most clearly be seen in document A. This chart shows a steady positive trend of cancer cases and morality rates increasing as the age of the victims increases.
