English Power Essay Jai Ghorpade Revised 
There are various types of power all of which have their own particular traits. But the underlying message is that power is authority and strength, which is any form of motive force or energy, ability to act, or control. The prescribed text is the novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell. The related material that will be compared is The Lego Movie, directed by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller. These two express positional/political, informational, and coercive power. As well as the concept of “absolute power corrupts absolutely.” The novel Animal Farm portrays a character who strongly exploits informational power. Informational power is about knowing things. Information can be made into power by giving it to others in a certain form, by falsifying it or manipulating it. A character that displays this trait is the pig Squealer. Squealer is the pig who is in charge of propaganda. Orwell has designed Squealer as the character who uses language to manipulate the truth and gain/maintain control. One such example of Squealer's propaganda is when he succeeds in convincing the rest of the animals that the pigs are consuming the milk and apples for the other animals, and that is it something that he does not enjoy doing, obviously lying. “Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. Milk and apples [proven by science] contains substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig...It is for your sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples”. The usage of “being proven by science” adds to the effect. This shows how the power of information can be used to manipulate people. Joseph Stalin was the dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist, represented by Napoleon, and Squealer is the propaganda that spreads like wildfire.
