Strahan Coliseum Ever been to the address of 700 Aquarena Spring Drive in San Marcos Texas? If you have you probably been there to support the fellow athletes of Texas State University or been to a concert that was held at this certain place, but if you have not been to here, you will soon. The address of 700 Aquarena Spring Drive in San Marcos Texas is the address where Texas Stat e’s University Strahan Coliseum stands. The Strahan Coliseum is a part of Texas State’s Campus which is located on the East Side of the campus. It is a facility that is mostly used for holding Texas State’s University collegiate sports events. It is the home court of the Men’s and Women’s basketball team and the women’s volleyball team. It has seven thousand two hundred seats that surround the hard wooden gym floor. This stadium is where students like me go to see the games and to go show my Bobcat spirit. But Strahan Coliseum was not always there and while I was at a basketball game I wondered why Strahan was built, when it was built and was it named after somebody and if it was who was this person.
So I went on the internet and found some interesting stuff about Strahan and. So first Strahan broke grounds in November 1979 and it opened three years later on October 1982. But what got my attention were who it was named after of and the story of him. Strahan Coliseum was named and honored after a guy named Oscar W. Strahan. Oscar W. Strahan or should I say coach Strahan, graduated from Drake University in 1915. While being a student there he majored in Education and he played basketball, football and track. After graduating from Drake University he became a coach for the Clinton and Perry school district in Iowa. He did that from the year of 1916 to 1917 and this was the start of his trademark that he was out to set. So after coaching for about a year in the Iowa districts, he came to Texas State University in the year

In the stadium, which originally seated 17,000 when the facility opened in March 1955, was reduced to 15,200 when Ted Owens coached here (1964 to 1983). Since 1993, the facility has held 16,300. Here fans fill red-and-blue bleachers from the floor to window-lined ceiling, creating an ambiance that is so retro-perfect it feels staged. The place couldn't look or feel much more like the set of a gladiator battle. After inventing the game, James Naismith launched the program at KU, coaching the Jayhawks from 1898 to 1907, and his name is on the floor. Wilt Chamberlain played two seasons for the Jayhawks, averaging 29.9 points and 18.3 rebounds. His name tops a banner recognizing All-Americans and his No. 13 hangs from the rafters. Another banner recognizes the school's academic All-Americans, including Bud Stallworth, Darnell Valentine and Jacque Vaughn. Folks here are proud of the fact that legendary coaches Adolph Rupp and Dean Smith are both KU alums and protégés of the building's namesake. Allen Fieldhouse defies logic. It holds almost twice as many fans as Cameron Indoor Stadium, yet somehow feels just as intimate. And its five championship banners are six fewer than hang in Pauley Pavilion, but it has at least as…

One of the people Meyer personally recruited was Eric Dickerson, a running back and the most sought out player in Texas. Another was Craig James, a tailback, who was also high on the most wanted player list. The two would come together and later be called the “Pony Express” (Pomerantz, 1982, p. D4). The article “Don’t Mourn Brown V. Board of Education” by Juan Williams discusses that it is now time for something greater in effect than what the Brown V. Board of Education can offer us today. Brown V. Board had a huge part in civil rights movement and got Americans to think about inequality in society and in education. Assimilating students does not insure that students that are black or Hispanics will not drop out high school nor does it guarantee the narrowing of performance levels. In fact schools have become more segregated while the nation has become more diverse. Schools continued to fail even with Brown V. Board of Education was enforced. The parents began to become dissatisfied with their children being pulled out of neighborhood schools and instead being bussed to different schools further away. The Supreme Court realized that using school children to address segregation in school was not going to fix segregation in society. Busing students began to be replaced with magnet school and charter schools and eventually the Supreme Court began to believe that the fourteenth amendment was better served by treating children as individuals rather than as tools to enforce segregation.…
