Waking up this morning, the bright spring sunshine shone through my window. In less than an hour, I was ready for school and heading towards the bus stop. Walking in the direction of the main road, I caught a glimpse of my bus and hurriedly increased my walking speed. Feeling triumphant about catching the bus, I dug my hand in my blazer pocket and fetched my oyster card. The triple beep of my oyster card embarrassed me, but I took no notice and strolled into the bus. I fixed my eyes on a comfortable-looking seat, and I was heading there when a young man holding a notepad stopped me. He considerately asked to see my oyster card, and that moment I comprehended he was a ticket inspector.
Unwillingly handing him my oyster card, he suspiciously looked at it, then back at me. In that split of a second, I realised my photo was completely scratched off, which I predicted was the reason why he gave me an unusual look. “Did you do this?” he asked curiously. I responded with a yes, trying really hard to imprison my laughter. Putting my oyster card carefully into his waist bag, he handed me the notepad he was holding and asked me to write down my details whilst explaining to me solemnly that it’s not allowed to use an oyster card in that state.
Wishing I had invisible fingers to block my ears, I ineffectively tried to think of something funny to distract me. Since I was in such a careless mood and was running late for school, I nodded at whatever the inspector said and agreed not to scratch off the photo on my oyster card again. In return, he gave me a temporary travel card for the day and provided me with advice on how to obtain a replacement. I thanked him with a fake smile and paced off the bus lividly. Feeling rather disappointed about my oyster card being withdrawn, I was thinking about something to put me back into the mood for the day.
