English Class
1. My last English class was very challenging. We worked mostly on analyzing and evaluating arguments. This included working with multiple articles and really understanding what the author was trying to argue. As a class, we really worked a lot with mapping and charting the texts. These seemed to take the longest to do because you are really digging deep into the text and trying to understand exactly what the author is trying to say. The most important thing that I learned is that “good writing is rewriting”. That was one of Micah’s quotes that he would say to us the entire semester, but it is true. You cannot expect to slide by with just one draft of your writing. We would spend weeks on just one assignment, making lots of revisions and constantly fixing things. This really helped me as the semester progressed.

2. Some of my greatest strengths are constantly revising my writing pieces. I am always looking for ways to improve my writing and I like to take the time I need to make sure that it is my best work. When it comes to weaknesses though, I struggle with understanding the reading. It takes me a few times before I am able to finally realizing what it is all saying. Articles tend to bore me which makes me lose focus and it causes me to have to reread things a lot. So I tend to go a lot slower than most, but I still get things done. One thing that seemed to help me in Micah’s class was going over people’s work in class. Also, looking at different examples from past classes. It made it to where I felt like I was on track and really had a strong understanding of what was expected of me for the assignment.

3. There is a lot of value in strengthening your reading and writing. That is what everything is based off of anymore. If you are not strong in either of those, it is difficult to go far with life. Everything that I learn in any English class is really going to help me with my future career and life in general. I am a business major, so every skill

When I look at myself as a writer, I see that I have my own strengths can also be weaknesses. One of my strengths I feel that I have as a writer is that I am very critical of my work. I review multiple copies of my writing. This tends to help when I am critiquing the overall voice and direction of my paper. A weakness of mine that is worth when it comes to my writing is the fact that I do not always understand or accept what others say about my writing. What I mean…

The only weakness I have is adapting to change. I never knew I had this kind of trouble in life, but I learned about something I have to work on. After analyzing it I realize it is a problem. Because I get nervous when I start something new or when I get stuck doing something I cannot do, I start to get frustrated. After learning this about myself, I need to work on making my weakness into strength by adapting to any type of changes in my life. My strengths included following instructions and adhering to values. I am very good when I have instructions in front of me as I build something new or when I have an assignment. Following instructions is my biggest strength in my life because it is something I use every day. Adhering to values is something new that I learned about myself just because I never noticed it in my life. I am the type of person who will stand by the truth in every situation around my.…

Overall, my experience taking English 106-H was fulfilled and I truly enjoyed my time in class. What were once weaknesses, slowly, but surely became strengths. Thus, it was through my weaknesses that helped me develop my writing skills, making me a stronger writer. Through free writing, word traps, and ideas of my own, I was able to implement those strategies into my writing. Nevertheless, I have reached my goal, but still will continue to strive for even stronger writing through out all of my courses at Lycoming College.…

o What are your strengths and weaknesses? My strengths are analyzing problems, and doing well through research. ,I tend to think through things and am able to solve a situation through past experiences and use good reason with intuition and imagination, which are all good qualities. I have self - knowledge and can balance responsibility with entrepreneurship. I am self- reliant and expect the same in return. I have wisdom and insight to situations and a great imagination as well. My weaknesses tend to be that I require people to do things my way to be the right way, in which I guess I have always had this outlook. I tend to be judgmental and acquisitive or possessive, that I tend to drive people away. I sometimes exert my freewill, thus not being accountable to those depending on me! I tend to be closed minded and do not listen objectively to facts of others or there interpretations.…

III. Strengths and weaknesses – One of my strengths is in self-knowledge. It states that when I say I am going to do something or care for someone, I will follow through with it, which is entirely true. Even within my gaming community, when it involves people playing fictitious characters on a computer screen, when I tell someone I am going to do something for them, I follow through with it to the best of my ability. Also when it comes to someone asking me a question in game about something, I will research everything I can find until I have the correct answer to give them. My weaknesses are with becoming too judgmental and legalistic, meaning I can become overly rigid with my expectations and obsess over minute details. I do have a tendency to get upset if someone does not do what they say they are going to do and tend to label them not so much as unethical, but as lazy.…

Throughout the semester, the Year Eight class have studied figurative language, Shakespeare, persuasive and narrative writing, as well as reviewing the role punctuation plays in ensuring clarity in writing. Chloe is a very friendly and capable student who has consistently produced work of a solid Year Eight standard. She can sometime allow herself to be distracted in class, this means that she often runs out of time to effectively edit her work. As a result of this she sometimes misses punctuation and grammatical errors that could have easily been corrected. In order to improve, Chloe will need to re-evaluate her use of class time to ensure that she leaves herself enough time to carefully edit all tasks before she submits them. I wish her all the best for next year.…

After my second week in college, I’m finding that high school has not taught me as much about college English as I thought it would. When I took the English placement test upon enter at the College of the Redwoods, I thought I did fairly well. I had not been in high school for thirty years so when I received the test results, spoke with an academic advisor, and learned that I would need to take English 150: Pre-collegiate Reading and Writing class I thought that meant I had retained some shred of knowledge from high school. Now I’m finding that high school hasn’t even prepared me for a remedial class!…

Throughout my education experience all my English classes have typically been the same. We would learn maybe a few new things, but overall every English class was about the same. I could not say that my English 211C class falls in that category because we talked a lot about current issues. I was not really expecting us to talk about current issues as much as we did. At first it through me off because it was not what I was used to in an English class, but I grew to like talking about current issues. I learned how important it is to keep up with current issues because if I live in this world a lot of things that go on in the world can affect me. It was also different because we got a topic and that is the topic we conducted all our assignments…

I have attended Argosy University Online since March 21, 2013 to Present. I was a Fulltime student. I'm currently taking my last course with them which is ENG 102. I enjoy taking my classes online. I feel as it is just like sitting in the classroom. When I logon to my class portal everything is there. Currently at Argosy the terms are 5 weeks long. So when I log on I have 5 modules that are one week a piece and have 3 assignments on each module. I participate in a discussion that the instructor puts out and I have to respond to the discussion post and also having to reply to two classmates on their discussion post every week. When assignments are due requiring the use of a text book I navigate under the module that the assignment is due and click on the require text that pertains to the assignment and the text is there from the book. When a writing assignment is due, I normally type the paper in Microsoft word and attach the document into the drop box on Argosy University's student portal and click the drop down box and click which assignment I’m submitting and submit it for grading. If I’m not too much in a hurry I will wait about ten minutes to see what my Turnitin score is. If I have any questions for the professor at any time I go to the left hand side where the modules are and click “Questions for the Professor” and ask my question. If it’s something personal in nature I will send the professor an email.…

Also, I learn that writing is a process that takes time and commitment and it is a lot of work, which does not happen overnight. It takes a lot of brainstorming, developing a thesis; drafting and revising as many times, in order to complete your assignment. There are multiple aspects of English that I understand better as a result of taking this class. Taking this class provided me with different exercises material and writing. By understanding these different exercises and applying them to my papers, I was able to improve my writing…

My strengths and weaknesses have changed since the beginning of the year. One thing that did not change was my ability to work under pressure. I learned that I write best when I have the pressure of the essay being due soon. This can be a double-edge sword since it causes me to write fewer words in a week than in one day before the assignment is due. Because of this, I generate fake deadlines to speed up my writing process. I discovered a weakness of not being able to write down the words onto the paper; using a mentally placed deadline, I have no other option than to just throw the words onto the paper. Also, another weakness of mine…

To start it off, this has actually been an English class that I will encourage other to pick from and why I say this is because is not like any ordinary English class. Your class actually has a meaning every topic we had discuss about examples from global warming, food industry problems, community, diversity we learn from this topic and each and one of us have different opinion. The topic that impact me the most to be more aware about was the global warming one, why? Because there’s many things out there that we are causing, that we are not aware of that causes global warming and this topic does changes people way of doing these ordinary harm towards the Earth. Also, no ordinary English class we could go and do service learning hours others…

I now feel, after being a student of this class, being successful in business or school requires the ability to organize, arrange, and compose thoughts into a logical format. Without these skills it is impossible to communicate thoughts and emotions grammatically. Reflecting on the past three months, I notice that our English 1A class has learned skills necessary to develop personal, informative, and persuasive essays. These are essential points needed to become successful in today's society. In previous English courses that I have participated in, I never realized that essay-writing skills were so important. Because of this class, my attitude toward writing has matured into an understanding of what it takes to be a good writer. Without the knowledge of why writing skills were important, I was concerned about "just getting by". Now, I enjoy the challenge of composing an interesting and thought provoking essay. I find myself developing an essay with my reader in mind, and thinking what might stimulate them to read my work. This class has developed my senses and stimulated my curiosity in the literary world and I feel I have made significant progress in my writing process. The most important of which being how, by the proper use of commas, transitions, and supportive quotes, I transform my average essay into a well composed, interesting literary work, well at least I think it’s interesting.…

    Habits of the Mind

The five qualities described in the readings that I am least proficient would be managing impulsivity, persisting, striving for accuracy, patience, and attentiveness. In terms of managing impulsivity (Arta Costa), I always tend to jump straight into an argument or judgment without taking all the time that is truly necessary to make sure the argument is a valid one that can be completely and factually backed up by evidence. Persisting (Arta Costa) is a quality I really need to work on aswell because I tend to write part of an essay or paper and lose my train of thought or focus and simply get stuck. This causes writing to take much longer than it should for me and I need to work on my ability to sit down and write something from start to completion. Striving for accuracy (Arta Costa) is an area that I need to work on because sometimes in timed situations or otherwise I tend to write names of characters or plot elements that I believe to be true and correct but that turn out to be slightly wrong or modified versions of the truth. I need to take the time to go back and double check my facts. The skill of patience (Carol Jago) is something I have always struggled with. I tend to judge a book and determine my like or dislike within the first hundred pages of the novel without waiting to see whether it has anything more to offer. I need to learn to hold off on judgment and wait till I am finished to measure a literary work. Lastly an area I need to work on is attentiveness (Carol Jago). I tend to begin glossing over a text when my attention has waned and I need to learn to be able to focus more and really do more active reading.…
