English Chapter 9/11 Short Story
Everything started out bad as Nicky had doubt in his grandma and sorrow for the future of his summer with her. What he didn't know was that in the future he would be just like his grandma, and learn how to be a river rat. Everyday experiencing what his grandma went through, learning new things, taking chances, and going on adventures. Nicky explored all the times hotly after he started to draw his surroundings, and finally followed his grandmas footsteps. By the end of the summer they were two river rats with nature.
Every day Nicky got up and explored the river, the fields, and even in the trees; he was always exploring something. This is one way that shows how he was adapting to this new environment with his grandma. He was taking in all the great things of nature. An important time that drove Nicky's love for exploring was when he helped a fawn out of the mud on the river bank, "It barely moved. I pulled again, then again. Slowly the fawn eased out of the mud, and finally it was free. Carefully I carried the fawn up the bank to its mother." He helped the animals and explored …show more content…
"She brought out a big sketchpad and a pouch filled with thick pencils and crayons. 'I’ve been saving these just for you' she said." This was the start of Nicky's drawings, his grandma once more encouraged him to do what she did. Therefore she was leading him to become more like a river rat. He drew animals that he saw in the forest with the pencils and a book from his grandma. In another incident Nicky's grandma helped him color in his first drawing. She took him step by step of what to do, I feel like this scene really triggered Nicky's mind to be like her. Lastly Nicky's grandma hung all of his drawings next to hers from sketches to finished products, while all of the drawings ended up on the same board.
