My Chosen Profession As any child growing up, I was always asked the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I would give answers like “A teacher, an orthodontist, and a babysitter!” It felt like I could be and do anything that I wanted to. Throughout the years I spent more time than the average kid thinking about my career, what I wanted to do, and who I wanted to be. It was my freshman year of high school that I learned I wanted to create my own cosmetic company and dive into the world of fashion and entertainment while somehow including God in all of it. I knew this industry would have many obstacles including hiring the right people, my financial situation, and not enough concern for the causes I feel are important. The only way I will succeed is with prayer and Gods support. I am currently a biblical studies and business management major. I have huge plans with my life after graduation. Within the first year I want to have my business plan all drawn up and ready for action, but before this can happen there are many problems I will have to face. For example creating your own business from scratch is a huge risk. It is very easy to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars if you don’t do everything right. If this happened to me I would honestly have no way to pay my debts back and would be in a horrible financial situation, so I will have to plan to spend my money on only the necessities. My makeup/hair product company will be started somewhere in Florida. You will walk in and the building will be beautiful. It will have black linoleum tiles with sparkles in them. The walls will be sparkly white and all the shelves, countertops, and displays will be neon. It will have a mini hair salon with a couple chairs and ladies on staff who have clients and the employee schedule will be based upon this. Also, there will be writing on the wall about how you are beautiful in God’s image and

For my senior project I choose to learn the ropes of being a professional DJ, under the watch of my mentor Tim Ball. The reason I choose this as my senior project is because I have a lot of interest in music and want to use this opportunity to try to help myself to being more comfortable being in front of people. Before starting this project I knew very little about what it takes to be a professional DJ, so while I work on this project I will be learning new skills and how to manage a DJ business. My mentor is known to the DJ community as DJ Outlaw; he has been a DJ for the last twenty years and has done over 3,000 gigs. He also has a valid Federal Communication of Commerce license (FCC License). He owns his own DJ business…

As I finish reading ‘The Odyssey’, story that is told by homer a poet who loved to tell stories of the gods and all the adventures and journeys the heroes went through. Odysseus the man who is astute and cares nothing but to get home to Ithaca where there, lies his kingdom, life, wife, and son who he had left when he was just born. While some might argue that Odysseus is not a hero, his decidedly heroic actions outweigh all of his faults because he is dishonest, self-centered, disloyal and disrespectful. He doesn’t care if he puts his man in danger he just wants to come back to Ithaca.…

A hero is a man noted for his special achievements according to the dictionary, but if you ask most people what a hero is, you will get the same general response. They will probably say someone who does something for other people out of the goodness of his heart. Odysseus, who is the main character of the story, "The Odyssey" told by Homer, would fit the dictionary's definition of a hero; but if you go deeper, looking at what people feel a hero is, he doesn't even come close. In the book, Odysseus does nothing out of the goodness of his heart. Even if Odysseus fought in the Trojan War, he is not a hero because he is self-centered and ignorant to other peoples' values and needs.…

A wise person once told me to “find a career and I will never be without a job.” I took that statement and ran with it! My freshman year everyone was motivating and questioning me on my future and what I wanted to do with. It started off as a counselor until I realized I do not necessarily BASK listening to INCONSOLABLE stories all day! Next it was a meteorologist, but can’t we look outside and see that it's raining? Then it was a teacher, and for that one let's just everything isn't for everybody! I found myself becoming BEWILDERED and feeling DESOLATED because I had peeked my junior year; the year where everything is supposed to be VAST and ready to go, and I was still AMBIVALENT on what I wanted “in the real world” as I heard in the many EXPOUNDING lectures. It was not until the summer of my senior year that God had finally put it in my heart to become a Pediatric Nurse Advisor; to become this person that can ASSUAGE and ABATE people, to become the…

    A. Imagine waking up at five in the morning to open a store, staying late into the night to close it down, standing over a fryer for long hours, cooperating with angry customers all day, but I’s all worth it for that new car, right? Though this does seem like a fine idea, teens are often exploited for their inexperience in the job market, working up to 12 hours after school every day. Unfortunately, the rights of teenagers working in the fast food industry are often overlooked.…

I had recently asked God to show me the plan He has for my life. Every time I seek Him He shows me glimpses into His plan. I have always loved helping others in need, so when I was a child I wanted to be a teacher/softball coach. As a sophomore I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart and life as my Lord and Savior. Once I let Him in my desires for my future began to change. He put in my heart to do some sort of missionary work. As I pondered about the idea of traveling and sharing the Good News, a voice from above began to speak to my heart. He put in my heart to pursue a career in the medical field! I felt that not only will I be…

While online schooling and AP class create pathways to success in both college and careers, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs provides students with higher success in both the classroom, and the workforce. Unlike online schooling and AP classes, CTE programs allow students the opportunity to challenge themselves and provide them with, “...the academic, technical, and employability skills and knowledge to pursue...and enter a career field…”(Brand et al. 7). As soon as students begin their freshman year of high school, they are pressured into choosing a career field they are interested in. This creates numerous problems when selecting future colleges and careers, because a majority of students are not given the opportunity to receive hands-on…

My philosophy of Career and Technical Education revolves around a few basic principles. First, I believe that formal education is a necessity in the recipe for success. Gone I believe are the times where a student could drop out of high school and still find a rewarding modest paying career. Another belief of mine is that education should prepare people for specific jobs rather than just a broad field education. Having a highly skilled workforce is dependent on people being well-versed in their field. My third belief is that legislation has provided the foundations for Career and Technical Education and will continue to be influential in the future. Lastly, I believe that the explosion of technology over the last 20 years has helped Career and Technical Education grow and will continue to be a driving force going forward.…
