As for most people we all heard of the no child left behind act from 2002 to present. The no child left behind was signed by President Georgia W. Bush. This act establishes that attempts to improve the performance of America’s primary and secondary schools. At the signing of the act there were many arguments for and arguments against no child left behind. no child left behind was a way to improve students learning and direct greater attention to low-achieving students and intensified efforts to improve persistently low-performing schools. There was many causes and effect from this act for primary and secondary schools. The state and district officials report that student achievement on the state tests is rising, which is a cause for optimism. The required state test in all four subjects is rising but not as high as the state would like it to be. The schools are mostly worried about making annual yearly progress. Schools are spending more time on reading and math, sometimes at expense of subject not tested. Schools are paying much more attention to the alignment of the curriculum and instruction and are analyzing test score data much more closely. The most common improvement is greater alignment of curriculum and instruction with standard tests and assessments. The no child left behind act requirement that districts and schools be responsible for improving not only the academic achievement of students as a whole but also the achievement of each group of students.
Adequate yearly progress requires states to create accountability systems of tests, graduation rates and other indicators. The schools have to make (AYP), as determined by the state, by rising achievements levels of subgroups of students such as African Americans, Latinos, low-income students, and special education students to a state- determined level of proficiency. As you can see there are many more effect to the no child left behind act. The no child left behind act many people will support and many would not .

    The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was by our 36th president Lyndon B. Johnson. ESEA was part of great society program passed in 1965, which was formed by Lyndon B. Johnson.     The purpose of No Child Left Behind is to close the achievement gap and to make sure that all children learn their math and reading by 2014. The law tries to accomplish this hefty goal by implementing different tactics. One of them is to have stronger accountability in the schools. In order to achieve this goal they use standardized tests to see how well the schools are teaching all of the students, with specific emphasis on students who are disadvantaged, like poor students or minority students. They divide the students into subgroups according their ethnic backgrounds and wealth and give them the tests. The tests are supposed to show how well the students are doing learning their basic skills such as math and reading. In theory, the school can then identify those students who are falling behind and focus more attention and resources on them. The schools then test the students again in order to determine if there was any improvement in their basic skills.     The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act focuses on standardized testing in all American schools. It is the Bush administration's sweeping educational reform, aimed at improving the performance of the nation's public schools by introducing accountability. Supporters of the act claim that it will increase the performance of all school children by raising the standards and allowing parents greater freedom in choosing the school they want their child to attend. The act also puts in place a system of punishment for schools if their student body does not perform to the standards set down by the National government (NCLB act). As well as increasing standards, this act also encourages teachers to use a curriculum that the government developed with "scientifically based research" (a phrase that appears 111 times in the act) (Hammond 4). While standardized curriculum and increased standards seem like they would improve children's learning, in reality it hurts them by pushing them too hard academically instead of focusing on social development, and denying them specialized attention based upon their individual abilities. The debate surrounding this has become a significant topic since the Act is currently under review and could be in the process of reauthorization. At the time of its inception, both political parties (Republicans and Democrats) supported the NCLB Act, however, both parties are now arguing over its validity. In 2005, there have been slight \adjustments to the regulations first set in 2005 by the Department of Education, but the revisions were not enough to gain full support from both parties. This act has failed to garner support from most Americans, and like most Americans, I also agree that this should not be reinstituted.
